My favorite holiday-related character is the Mari Lwyd, because I find it a very charming and creative tradition that seems like a lot of fun to participate in on both sides.

For more context about the Mari Lwyd: It's a horse skull on a pole, carried by a person hiding under a sheet. Groups of people accompanying the horse visit houses (The other people in the group sometimes also dressing up as other holiday-related characters), and the Mari Lwyd asks to be let inside through song.

The homeowners would respond through song too, and they'd essentially go back and forth until one side relents. If the householders give up, the Mari Lwyd and its team are allowed inside and given a meal.
