here is what happened: i finally finished the plain no-effect no-background no-tweak animation, and guess what? flash crashed as i just started adding effects. But, as the fla lost progress, the swf was still saved. So i was able to import the swf into another project, and edit that. So that means i can still add effects and backgrounds, but i cannot tweak the animation. Therefore, i will still publish the animation, but it may be lower quality than you will expect.
