i don't like mods for newers version of minecraft because there are some mods for fabric and forge so if there is two mods you would like to play, one of them are for forge and the other for fabric you won't be able to combine them and play with them you will only be able to play with only one of them in 1.12.2 every mods use forge, i never saw a mods for 1.12.2 that needed fabric, so if you want to play with multiple mods that doesn't required choosing between forge or fabric you can, but you will only be able to do it in version 1.12.2 or lower
