Mostly silent child protagonists from RPG games who are surprisingly powerful for their own right. Both were born with strange, supernatural powers (PSI for Ness and New Kid's, uh... Time manipulating farts and his ability to make a ton of social media friends) who go on an adventure with their friends through suburbia and more, while being faced by the police, people who've gone mad, various creatures, aliens and even eldritch abominations, as well being involved in some time shenanigans.
There's also the fact Earthbound somewhat influenced the South Park games so there's that
