It had been almost a month since Mark went missing. Each passing day felt darker.
Wendy, Mark's fourteen year old sister, had remained skeptical about what could have possibly happened to him, whereas their aunt believed Mark had died in the fire that broke out in the warehouse he was working at.
It wasn't impossible, but multiple bodies were reported to have been found in the ashes and rubble of the building, and none of them were identified as Mark. All they had found of him was his car parked outside the warehouse. The cause of the fire appeared to have been from an explosion according to the reports, but as to why it happened seems to still be under investigation, or completely unknown.
Wendy hated how much she felt left in the dark about it all. So many thoughts went through her mind and kept her up at night.
Mark was always kind of quiet and maybe a bit strange, but he certainly got stranger while he worked at that place. He seemed to brush it off as "being tired". Wendy wished she asked him what was wrong, but their aunt kept telling her to let him sleep because of how rough the night shift was.
Wendy had once wondered if Mark was responsible for the fire, but it just didn't make sense to her. Mark may be odd, but he wasn't someone who would hurt somebody else, or burn an entire building down for that matter.
Wendy sat on top of her bed, hugging her knees. Maybe her aunt was right, but she couldn't accept it. If Mark was alive, he would have been found days ago. But if he really wasn't, then wouldn't he have been found as well? It continued to bother Wendy, and it was never going to leave her alone until she got her answer.
All of it was only making her more and more curious...
