Hey guys!
So, remember the haunted cabin in the woods with the creepy painting in my bedroom? We went there again to brainstorm. This time there was no painting, although I swear, I've heard strange noises coming from the attic.
The first thing, that went on the table, was the script for the demo. After a few minor changes were made, I can finally say, that it is done. All I have to do now, is not to come up with new ideas to add to it. How hard can it be, right? Right...
When the matter of the script was sorted we focused on things at hand. And, as it turned out, there were many of them... Who knew that a game's demo needs so much mechanics? Don't even get me started with the NPC's!
Well...
Since I started...
I plan to put around 20 NPC's into the demo. Some of them are... Strange. How strange, you ask? Imagine the Seven Dwarfs. Now, imagine they went to the gym 5 days a week, and then some. Yeah... Plus, all of the NPC's have to be animated. Gotta move them muscles!
What do you get, when you add a whiteboard and a bunch of color markers? That's right! Level design! After all, those NPC's have to stand around somewhere. We planned out the levels for the demo, with all encounters in mind. It was glorious. Until someone decided to wipe it down to draw a funny picture... You know who you are.
It wouldn't be an OddLog if I didn't mention the infamous battle mechanics... Sigh... I'm going to try and summarize the work we've done in one sentence... We tried to balance it. There... The never ending work continues. The demo itself will have about 10 battle encounters, including 2 boss fights. I can neither confirm nor deny that one of the boss fights will be hidden. Keep your eyes open!
Putting all the mechanics, animations, environments, NPC's, sugar, spice and everything nice together, to make the demo should take about 3 months. After that, it will be just putting finishing touches. In the meantime I plan to work on the script for the whole game.
Whew... That's all for now. Hope you had a good read and you're as excited for the demo as I am. Stay Odd!
