Hi everybody!
It's been a while, I know... All I can say is, that I've had a lot on my plate and it's been hard to write those articles....
But worry not! I'll do my best to keep you updated on the game's progress! But that's not what I wanted to write about today... I'd like to tell you about some inspirations for Oddventure and how it all began.
Few years ago me and our graphic designer, ate some pizza. Starts great, I know. After the last slice was eaten, my friend started to draw on the carton, like every sane person does. He drew two characters. One was a creepy girl, the other a boy with insanity in his eyes, who ate a worm like spaghetti. Completely ordinary, right? I immediatly thought: "Huh, those are great for a web comic." And that's how the seed for Oddventure was sown... Sowed?
Time passed and I created things. Some of them even long before the drawing. A short movie script (10 years ago!), some web comics, some short tales etc. All the things had one in common - they all revolved around my and other people's thoughts about life and stories people told me. That's what really matters to me. I really belive that each one of us has a story to tell and it really fascinates me.
And then I played Mother series, Undertale and Lisa: The Painful... The evidence that those games inspired me is apparent in Oddventure's design.
That's when I decided, that I want to tell my own story about life, the choices we make, the people we meet, morality and... stuff. So over the course of 2 years I gathered all the characters and themes from my previous work that I thought would fit, read Nietzsche to screw with my mind and set some darker themes, wrote some plot points and a draft of the script, talked to some friends and Poof! That's how the Oddventure began.
And the fairy-tailish part of the game? Well... That's the result when one reads almost 2000 pages of original, uncensored Brothers Grimm and Andersen tales. Perfect source of inspiration for my bizarre sense of humor.
That's all for today. Progress updates will come in the following weeks, when I have something to write about :P. For now have a nice day and stay Odd!
PS. Have some early drawings of Dodo and Mr. Rabbit. They're concept-arts for the script mentioned above! (Yeah, we were the ones who would play those characters, lol)
