Hi everyone!
It's been a while since we last updated Oirbo development progress. As you know the team had some big changes IRL and Oirbo content development ground to a halt. We continued working on the game core engine but we didn't really have much to show you guys, that all changes today!!! Although it will be a shorter dev log.
We are finally integrating the last piece of the puzzle into the game, Oirbo visual language is going in!
(FYI, all graphics are still placeholders)
The game's visual language will be our main tool to explain the story, lore, and mechanics of the game. Although right now we are focusing on the billboards system, the visual language will be scattered and camouflaged around the game world, so don't forget to examine the background well on your playthroughs xD.
That being said you will see a lot of billboards scattered around the game world, and to make sure that they are relevant for more than basic exposition, we added a few features that make them dynamic as the game progresses. In the image above you can see that in action after you defeat the area boss, the billboards will dynamically change in order to point to the next points of interest, them being new areas or sections to be explored or some tips on where are the game collectibles (as seen above).
As we play and integrate the visual language in the game, we are certain that we will find new clever ways of giving players new information and new aspects that you wouldn't otherwise be aware of.
For now, this is what we are working on, in the next couple of weeks we will be integrating it throughout the areas we already completed, after that we will finally bootstrap the mechanical bay area, so expect new enemy previews on our Twitter and Discord ;).
A big thanks to all our patrons for continuing to support us even on this downtime, and other thanks to all Oirbo fans that keep sending us feedback! Don't forget to join us on Discord, Twitter, and wishlist the Oirbo on Steam.
We also wish Happy Holidays to everyone, keep playing, and be safe!
