Ok so there's a new undertale fangame released and that game is shifted reality (a take on storyshift)

It's only a demo but I got a lot of stuff to say about it.

So for the first time, I'm going to do a game review on an Undertale fangame

Keep in mind that this is going to be long and also any things I say about the game in some areas or strictly my opinion. If you think differently about it then that's fine, we're all allowed to have our own opinions. Also I understand that this is a demo and some opinions could change in the future (Also this will contain spoilers for those who haven't played it yet so I recommend playing it for yourself. Also credit to the shifted reality team and merg for the thumbnail and art being used here)

Let's first go over the story

--The Story--

So the beginning opening starts off with frisk near the end of one of the genocide route (presumably after killing chara) and blooky (Napstablook) then telling sans (who is the king in storyshift) about the human and their genocide runs. Sans confronts frisk to try and change them and tell them that they are being controlled by metta and thus frisk somehow wakes up from metta's control, resulting in the two splitting into two beings. But then blooky kills them both and gets a hold of the reset button and resets the timeline and frisk being sent straight back to the beginning but this time things are a bit different this time.

Now to say what my pro's and cons about the story.

The things I like about it is that it is a bit unique. It may not be a bit original but the way is done is pretty neat and having blooky telling sans about the human is pretty interesting and that they both actually try to do something about the human unlike Flowery and Asgore in Undertale. The splitting concept is also pretty unique since most Undertale fangames never do something like that and I find it interesting how it's used here (even if it is short)

Now with my problems with the story a bit (I know this will be negative to others but I'm trying to give constructive criticism or something and if anyone or the team of this game don't like this review at all then I understand and I'm sorry)

First of, I don't get how blooky got the reset button in the first place. I know Flowey in Undertale used to have the ability to reset, but he lost that ability once sometime before or when the human fell down into the underground (and I'm presuming it's the same situation for blooky here) so how did he get the reset button to respawn? I think there could be an explanation for that from either the creators or the game's story that we don't have a clarification or explanation yet. And also, I don't think metta is the one who controls frisk to do the genocide run as technically it's the player that does that. Overall I think the story is alright. It might have some flaws but they're not huge problems at all and the story is alright

Next is the gameplay (keep in mind that these next parts won't be as long as the story part)

--The Gameplay--

I don't have much to say about the gameplay as it's pretty much standard Undertale and overall it's alright. I think the best fight in the demo is Papyrus as his attacks are pretty nice and true to his character which is pretty cool. (Also I find it interesting that the game uses the TP system from deltarune)

but if there's something I don't like about when you start the game, it's that it throws you into a room and you're already at the house where papyrus is and alphys is following you for some unknown reason. No beginning encounter with blooky or meeting alphys for the first time, it just puts you into what is presumably the middle part of the ruins, I hope this gets changed in the future where it at least has a beginning where you first encounter blooky and meet papyrus and alphys for the first time as this feels wrong to start at the part.

and that's all I gotta say about the gameplay. not much but that's all I have to say

Now we go on to the characters and the designs and sprite work

--characters, designs and sprite work--

Now for this part, I'm going to go over the characters and their designs first. All the characters have pretty unique designs (especially sans) and I find them interesting on how they act like they would normally act in storyshift from the original storyshift comic with a few unique things about them.

(although I can't go over it here as I think it would be too long to explain but the dynamic between frisk and metta is pretty fun)

now about the sprite work, I like the character sprites but the room and location sprites I'm not a fan at all as to me, they look a bit unfinished, even for a demo. But I know this is a demo and things will subject to change in the future, and I understand that the sprites did their best and I give props to them and I hope they're doing well

Now here's a part where I talk about the creator and main director of the game (that being Neo) why you may ask? Well I actually had a bit of a thing with this game sometime last year

so basically neo was wanting to hire me to be a concept artist for the game since they liked my Undertale vector arts like my Underfell great time trio vectors, and I was really excited and agreed to it.

Neo then followed and friended me and gave me some sprites of some the characters, and I thought neo was wanting me to make redesigns for them which resulted in me making a model of alphys which is now completely gone and deleted but then it turned out neo wanted me to make vectors of the character designs they gave me instead of making redesigns despite the fact they never told me to make vectors of the designs when he gave them to me (but now looking back I think I should have asked them if that's what I was supposed to do before making that alphys vector)

So I then tried to make the vector more accurate to the actual sprites but then I found out they unfriended me and unfollowed me, which meant I was fired just because I messed up on making a vector of a character. I was really upset when that happened as I find that as a jerk move as I only just messed once by accident. But I learned from that experience to always ask questions about what to do before making things for being hired for anything. Now keep in mind I don't hate the creator (that being neo) as they are a good person and know how to run a team, I just don't like what they did when they unfriended and unfollowed me just because I made a mistake. But they are a good person and I wish them and their team the best of luck for working on shifted reality

Overall, Shifted Reality is an alright game with only a few flaws but those flaws don't harm the overall experience. It is an alright and good game

If you want me to make more reviews like this, just let me know and please understand that these opinions of mine about the game are my opinions and we're all allowed to have our own opinions

Anyways good night everyone and I'll see you all later

Poor thing :(

Here's a w.i.p of the characters on the menu as of right now

It also reveals the designs for Tera and Nano :)
