New world height also probably means that when your world was 64MB's for example, now its suddenly 92MB's after exploring a bit. More blocks to save and load.
Options to fix the optimizations of that:
make a render distance affect height more (it doesn't do that much)
make a new world type that is the old height
optimize the entire thing and add that thing games have that makes everything look worse the farther away it is
