Orange Devlog - Birthday Edition!!!


Hi everyone!!! Its been far too long ever since our previous devlog. As we've said before, we like keeping devlogs to special moments, and today is one of the most special days of all, our 1 year anniversary !!! So I hope you're ready because we have a lot to say.


Q&A ///

Anon says: "What's a word or a phrase that is very important to the story but doesn't make any sense without context?"

I'd say that "Loops within loops within loops" would fit! Although that was a very hard question to answer, there's just a lot, lol. -Cleer

Babylara says: "How did you come up with the name for the protagonist? Was it inspired from Dante's Hell?"

No, actually! When development first began a year ago, we were wondering what 5 letter name we could use, as Frisk and Chara both had 5 letters. After some brainstorming we liked the name Dante, but it did eventually influenced our writing with The Comedy, lol. -Cleer

Agent Citrus says: "Hey there, I was just wondering, which of the characters of your current cast in Undertale Orange could be considered your favorite?"

It'd definitely be between Mondae (Previously known as Tamelia,) and Fallin with me. -Cleer

Anon says: "How's the game dev coming along, like at what stage are you currently?"

I couldn't tell you at what stage we are. We don't really deal in stages of development. We do what work needs to be done over time. But to elaborate on this, we have the battle system, demo overworld layout and sprites, planned enemies and the entire demo writing is done. What needs to be done is importing some important battle system software and working on story elements, such as the cutscene system, alongside the music. -Cleer

Anon says: "Are you planning on including any characters from Undertale or will the cast be completely original?"

Entirely original. Undertale Orange takes place *at least* a good number of decades before the game, and we don't really think any of the main UT characters (outside Toriel and Asgore) would be alive. So our entire cast is original. -Cleer

Matias Vasco says: "Will there be more than 3 endings? or sort of a secret ending only achieved by doing something secret like the eggs in deltarune?"

We have a few secrets planned here and there. But overall there will be no more than 3 endings to the game, one for each route. -Cleer

Anon says: "Will UTO have any new or different areas to Undertale?"

Yes! Although many have changed from before, mostly those more later into the game. Currently there stands the DEMO area, The Ruins, followed by Snowdin Peaks, a mountainous snowy area that takes place in Snowdin. After this, there's Deepwell Mines, an empty mining town, followed by Starfalls Swamp, a swampy forest-y region that takes place in the Waterfall area. This is followed in turn by New Home, then The Core, and ends with Castle Grounds! -Cleer

Anon says: "Are we going to see any different soul modes?"

We do have them planned but they're more ideas than established features at the moment. All I can say is that we have all 6 soul types in mind! -Cleer

CraftJupiter says: "What's been the most challenging part of development so far?"

Getting time to work, honestly. Life has been so full and busy lately that whenever we have time to spare we're too tired to do anything productive. So development has been slow. -Cleer

Anon says: "Is undertale orange connected to any other undertale soul aus?"

Nope! Undertale Orange is connected only to Undertale proper. We do take some inspiration here and there from other projects, such as Yellow, but it is not meant to be connected to any. -Cleer

DANTE NO MORE ///

We've decided to retire the name Dante. From the next devlog forward we will refer to him only as The Human. The reason for why we did this is because we wanted some more involvement from you guys in the story, so his name will be able to be chosen at the beginning of the experience.

That feature *is* a bit buggy atm, so we can't share screenshots, but hope to sooner than later. But yeah! He's The Human now, and we hope that you give him a name he'd like in your own playthroughs.

New Home, New Characters ///

We finally finished making characters for the main cast a couple months ago. You can see them as the third and second to last ones from left to right in our "outlines" post before this one. We'll share art of them and the rest of the cast whenever we can, but now know that the New Home section of the game is finally able to be written.

Alongside this, another character with a lot of involvement in New Home has finally been designed after a year long struggle with her appearance. So stay tuned! I'll make sure to update soon.


I'm really happy to see Orange come this far, and although I hope that development doesn't take as long as others, I hope that however much it takes, it lasts. Thank you for the support!!! See you next time.
