Back when I was making Nobelief, I came up with the idea of having an item that gives the player a punishment by adding Scooby Doo, Luigi and Popeye into the game. I thought it was really funny, and the gag just kind of stuck.
In Angry Sans: Too Many Genocides, I decided that the Scooby Doo gag should be put to the side for something new, so I turned to an old web series I used to watch - Microsoft Sam reading funny Windows errors. One of them was "Windows will now smash your C:/ drive with a hammer", so I took that and reworded it.
Ink Sans: ALL-STARS had something... sort of different. I wanted to keep the hammer gag in some way, so I chose to add Jevil beating the player with the Devilsknife.
The rest is history.
