I recommend this movie to anyone who loves gothic or silent films. It's beautiful and pulls at your heart strings. It also inspired one of my favorite characters - The Joker. Every time I watch it, I am hypnotized by the actors' expressive and moving performances.

That one moment in Gwyndplaine's hesitation and his desire for Dea's comfort. He loves her so much but is still afraid she would not accept him because of his scar - his permanent smile. So beautiful. 😭
