Our Parting Goodbye

Before I begin, I just want to say that this notice is a bit long, so please be patient

So... For almost 2 months, there has been no updates to The Awakening. There has been teasers, and even showing off the teaser in Exploration Playground. Today, after almost 2 months, we get... a patch update?

I know what you are thinking (kinda). Why did we wait nearly 2 months for a silly little patch update?! The answer is simple, but is displayed under the changelog.

Changelog:

  • New High Quality audio by @jdrocco5 was added into the game

  • If the player went the third option and finished the night, the screen will hyperlink you to Ending 2. This bug has been fixed.

  • Added an image, to symbolize you completed the game. This has audio as well (by me)

The Reason

The reason why I haven't been working on this is that I have other projects I'm now working on. Exploration Playground and Tag! Now Hide! are my 2 other projects, and after spending a bit working on games which require a bit more programming, I stepped away from PowerPoint development. PowerPoint now once learning actual C# coding makes it feel like an actual joke to develop games in it. I get it now. Some people may be like "You actually agree that games shouldn't be made in PowerPoint" but I actually did it. I made a game in Microsoft PowerPoint and this time, uploaded it online for the public. Not a lot of people actually enjoy the game, but it is a different experience to make a game using software not intended for games to be made in. That is why there are lots of bugs that I can't even fix.

Night 2 is a good example. When you die, you go back to the beginning. After some hyperlinks, the animations don't appear to reset. This is also found in Kevlin's Path. Kevlin's Path was made for people who could not pass James' Path for the night. Animations don't reset after hyperlinks apparently. They will in Unity.

Codename: Reawakened

Now moving on to the remake of the game... not exactly.

As a student having to go to school almost every day of the week like students should, I don't have enough time of the week to actually focus on making a game like C:R should be. I have to confess, but I have been working on C:R a bit, but what I have is now scrapped. I need more time to plan the game, while also learning how to use C# a bit more. This is why Exploration Playground and Tag! Now Hide! exist in the first place. These games are my stepping stones for C:R and are my basic tutorials. I need these games in order to release C:R in the future. I actually have to say this, but C:R may possibly have to cancel C:R due to certain restraints against me, and I don't want to cancel such a massive project.

Take IvanG for example. (I dont want to tag him for some reasons) He is working on another game with his friends and that might be cancelled due to time constraints. I hope that the game will be what is should be, and thats why I need help.

Assisting With Development

I do need help if I want to do this, and that is why my friends have agreed to help me.

I will be working on the game with @meiscool466 , @XENON2020 and @jdrocco5 , as well as my other friends if they want to assist. C:R will be a massive project, my biggest one yet. I need time to prepare. So this is my official statement:

The Awakening - Codename: Reawakened will not start development until both Exploration Playground and Tag! Now Hide! reach v1.0 and above.

This will give me time to prepare.

The Awakening EOL

Although this is pretty far down, I need to discuss the reason why its receiving an EOL. I did discuss why this took a while, but now its time for the EOL part.

The Awakening has been a pretty good project, and I love the game as it is. I did make a Trello list about what needs to be done, but when I think about it now, it doesn't really fit with the current state of the game. I understand that it will fit with C:R, but not the original PowerPoint version. So with every feature being a part of the game, it needs to go for its rest.

Now when I say all features, I do mean all except 1 when this notice is uploaded.

When The Awakening started, @XENON2020 decided to try make a modding tool for the game. I asked him today if he could please sent it to me. If so, there will be a package for the tool.

A Final Reward

An image at the end of the game is not enough, there is a special reward for everyone who is following the game.

Originally this zip was gonna be on GameJolt, but was too big to be uploaded. In a little while, a download link will be in the description of the game.

Inside the zip is every single version of the game from the very beginning to the very end. Be aware that the file size is just over 3GB

Parting Words

So now we have come to the end of my first ever public game. I wish that The Awakening will go to rest as great as it can. So even though this almost made me cry when uploading the final version and typing this notice, I really hope you have a good time. The Awakening was my one thing I went to and edit before Unity development. It was my biggest project yet and still is until C:R arrives.

With all due respect, I want you all to have a wonderful day and stay safe. Goodbye everyone. Goodbye The Awakening.

I have added rewards for quests so that villagers can give you something in return for your hard work helping them. 🥳

I want to know - what's your favourite quest reward?

What you all think

Back in my art school days I used to ride the 710 COPSA line from Parque Del Plata to Montevideo almost everyday. This is the Marcopolo Viaggio G4 Mercedes Benz model from the late 80s, one of the older bus models that was running on the line.
