Wait, there are games about Thanksgiving? Well, there really aren’t that many that aren’t…turkeys (groan). While the holiday commonly referred to as Turkey Day in America is nowhere near as popular a subject as Christmas, there have been a few fun games made about it.
Here’s a quartet of games to enjoy while recovering from a turkey-induced food coma.
Thanksgiving Turkey Tower Toss (Windows)
You control a herd of tiny pilgrims running around swinging a giant turkey like a reverse Particle Mace and knocking over American Indian bowling pins (!?). After that, you swing bombs at a boss. This game was made for Indies VS PewDiePie, which explains why the boss is a giant robotic TV screen with a caricature of PewDiePie’s face on it. Buggy, but I like it.
Turkey Time (Unity Web Player)
This game, also made for the Indies VS PewDiePie jam, is incredibly janky but somehow quite fun to play for the few minutes it takes. You’re a turkey hellbent on revenge against humans for all of the atrocities committed upon its kind. So you go around exploding them. But don’t get cocky; humans fight back, and are particularly dangerous in mobs.
A Very Indie Thanksgiving (Windows)
Another Indies VS PewDiePie game. This one is a short, super-good point-and-click adventure that features some lovely hand-drawn art (that I think would look great as a webcomic). It’s funny and it has multiple endings, so it’s well worth the somewhat hefty download.
Thanksgiving Turkey Simulator (HTML)
I came across this sublime little Twine adventure on the excellent Free Game Planet’s excellent tumblr. As you might surmise from its title, it casts you in the role of a turkey on the deadliest day in a turkey’s life. Things start silly and escalate to ridiculous. Your choices are generally limited to eating, gobbling, and walking—but they make a difference in how the fantastic, farcical tale unfolds.
Any other decent Turkey Day games out there?
