Progress Update #2: Changes coming in the next update


Hello everyone!

I apologize going silent after 1.3 and I appreciate your patience.
The new update is almost done, I just need to tackle the bull that is Hide and Seek and fix up a few things. I figured that since you’ve all been waiting for some form of update, I should at least tell you what to expect when the next version comes out.

A lot of these changes will only be seen by cheating, so I’ll note which ones are cheat only with this symbol: (C). Without further ado, here are the main changes that you will see in the next update:

General Changes

  • The game window adjusts itself according to resolution on startup:

  • The game has the SEGA logo (will become more important later) and the Sonic Team logo at the beginning, as well as a slightly changed title screen to make the game more deceiving at the beginning.

  • (C) The level select now uses Sonic 1’s design and the level select code has changed.

  • Pressing the Action or Jump button on the Save Select will take you back to the SEGA screen like in Sonic 3.

Gameplay Changes

  • (C) It’s now possible to have 3 AI players at once.

  • (C) The AI’s are now smarter. They can fly, they can follow in a line, use abilities, and there will even be a toggle to switch between classic AI and the new AI. They can also carry eachother around.

  • (C) Tails can now drop any AI he’s carrying with the Action button. You can also avoid carrying them in the first place by holding the A button while flying, though I might swap this around and make it so that pressing/holding the A button allows you to carry AIs.

  • Added a new camera manager (helps with things like autoscroll, cutscenes, etc.). Expect cutscenes to look smoother.

Level Changes

  • The GHZ1 && HZ2 Title Card now flickers.

  • The HZ2 Spikes have been fixed

  • It’s no longer possible to fly under the terrain at the beginning of HZ2.

  • HZ2 is… d̷̶̢̕͡Y̷̴̢̡i҉̴̀͡ń͜͏Ģ̵̶́̕?̛́

  • Tails can’t escape his fateful meeting with S͏͟͠o̷͡҉n̨̕͝͏ì̛͏ć̸̴͟.

  • The level everyone has been waiting for, Hide and Seek, will become playable. (It already exists, but is near entirely empty and uses Hidden Palace Zone as placeholder music).

  • After “beating” this level, the game will lock Tails’ save file and the Save Select will change. You will also be locked out of the options menu, so make sure you’re satisfied with your settings before continuing on.

While this list contains majority of everything to expect, some other feature/improvements/bugfixes may also make it in after I publish this devlog so don’t think that the list above is set in stone.
