Prometheus (titan) stole fire from the gods and gave it to man. Fire isn't deadly, but how man uses it can be used in evil ways, like all things in this world. Which is why he was punished by the Olympians in the end.

In this case, technology is an allegory for that fire, how humans use technology to corrupt themselves into becoming or equal themselves to God. Like how Weyland created David, a synthetic human, he has the power to create man but is held back by his mortal condition, he is prone to die one day, like all things in the world. So he appoints Shaw to find the Engineer so he can beg for immortality, but this childish view leads him to the place he was afraid of the most, death.

The engineer responsible for our creation sacrificed himself for our existence. The Engineers appreciate death upon other things and are angry at us possibly because we tried becoming more than we are supposed to be and don’t appreciate that death is a very natural ending for us.

Even if the Engineers are mortal, it stands that they are an allegory for God. How Jesus sacrificed himself to save the human race from evil, but it is our decision whether we want to follow Him or not in a world that becomes crueler by the second.

Ridley Scott has crafted a great movie about existence and I adore this movie for what it is.
