So the world’s worst-kept secret is now out there
Desert Child is now being published by Akupara Games!
So you might be asking “But Oscar, you did a kickstarter and are now insanely wealthy, why would you need a publisher?”
An excellent question. Thank you for asking .
While the Desert Child Kickstarter was a success, it wasn’t, like, an OMG HYPER LIGHT DRIFTER success. The money from the KS campaign covers basically development costs for about 8 months, but there’s so much more that goes into making a game than just development.
So here’s a brief list of things that are happening thanks to this partnership:
-Console Ports - PS4, XBONE, Switch. Yeah boyo!
-Localisation - this gets expensive and takes time. Akupara have plenty of experience in adding languages other than English.
-Ass kicking - I seriously need my ass kicked sometimes.
-Marketing - Man, if I never have to send out an email to the press ever again, it’l be too soon. Marketing takes so much time out of development.
-Promotion - Hey, gonna be at GDC? I won’t be, but Akupara will. They’re showing Desert Child at The Mix, AND…
THE OTHER PARTY!

I’m bummed I wont be there, but I can assume it’ll look something like this.
In addition, Akupara will have playtesters comb through the game for all the bugs I don’t want y’all to see, and they’ll be like “Yo, Oscar, this level sucks and has too many racial slurs and Big Bang Theory references” and then I’ll be like “Oh man, you’re right! What was I thinking?” and then the game will be made better.
A couple of things to end on:
I found out this week that Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is no longer available to purchase anywhere. This is a damn shame. This game was the reason I started making games.
It’s been 9 years since Charles Barrington first appeared, and I’ve never seen anything from him again. This is a damn shame. This guy was the reason I started keeping bees.
