Quick devlog before 2024 ends


Been a minute since I posted anything meaningful here, huh? I figured that since I posted one of these last year, I'd give another one now.

So, what's going on? (Again)

Despite the lack of updates, I've been pretty hard at work behind the scenes this year. One of my goals for the year was to have the game in at least a playable state (and I worked a good 14 hours in the last two days to achieve that LOL), and while it isn't perfect, most of the main functions are programmed and functional. I've started working with placeholders much more to just get functionality done, and it's been pretty successful so far!

I'm slow as HELL

Now this is something most people associated with the game know, so I figured I'd just let you know too. I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to this project, and as a result, I end up scrapping, remaking and readding things over and over and over. While I DO believe that this improves the overall quality of the game, it obviously slows down things by a ton. The problem is that I want the BASE of the game to be the best it can be, so that everything that I add to said base is higher quality too. I believe that if the base of a game is bad, anything you add will be bad too, and I'm trying my absolute best to not have that happen to LL. But as a result, I've been working on this project for nearly 5 years and still don't have anything complete. While this sucks, I'm satisfied with the base I have now, and I'm hoping things speed up from here.

Plans

Well for starters, the deal of revealing a bunch of stuff whenever the page reaches 100 followers is still up! What I'll show is a surprise, but it's cool, trust me. I'll also open the discord server I promised 7 months ago. Now the next part is probably going to sound stupid, but just bare with me here.

My ultimate goal for whenever this game is finished is to get it up on Steam. I'm not using any copyrighted material in the game, and I'd like to distance both myself AND this game from FNaF wherever possible. In the end, it's an original project (despite the gameplay obviously being very inspired by FNaF, lol), and hey. If Five Nights at Skibidi Toilets can sell on Steam, then so can my game. That said, that's pretty far off, as you can imagine. I'll look into it when we get there.

This is where I run into a bit of an issue though. I'm REALLY split between being much more transparent on what I'm doing and keeping the surprise until I release some kind of demo. I love surprises, and with the amount of quirky stuff I'm doing with this game I'd hate to spoil said surprise. At the same time, I don't want it to seem like I'm not doing anything, since that just isn't the case!! I'd love to hear some input on this, since it's kind of hard for me to settle on.

That's about it! I don't want to make any promises, but I'm DECENTLY confident that I'll have a demo release somewhere in 2025. How much of the game is finished by that point is entirely dependent on my motivation, which is unfortunately really hard for me to predict.
