Hello everyone. It has been almost a month since the trailer premiered and I would like to thank you guys for the support so far. I have had the idea of a retake ever since last year when I watched the show for the first time. So with all this knowledge of the show, I want to attempt to make this Retake as accurate to the early era as possible. Granted, there will be some conflictions with them due to limitations (with Windows 7 stuff being a prime example), but I'm gonna try my best. Going on the topic of accuracy, I wanna talk about how I'm gonna handle all the animation you will see in the game. Now normally, the smart option would be actually using Flash, but I don't know how to use Flash let alone use the puppets made for it. So I'm gonna take a slightly different approach. I'm going to be using CreatorOfPony's 3D models with some shading that will replicate the art style. As you can see in the image above (censored something due to spoilers), I applied this method to a Pinkie Pie test animation I made a while back. Now this animation won't be used but you can get an idea on what these animations will look like in game. You can notice some inaccuracies that will be fixed. The first being the lines don't connect properly and some mane and tail details are missing. That is something I can easily fix post rendering (if I can do that because it doesn't look exactly as shown rendered). The second being the teeth don't match. I can fix that as soon as I figure out the rendering issue. But yeah I'm gonna have to apply this method to all of the models that will be used. Not just for the placeholder sprites shown in the current screenshots on this page, but also after making each animation. It's not going to be entirely accurate, but it's as close as I'm gonna be able to get unless I can get someone who knows flash animation well enough to help out with this project. With that, I'm gonna be going full time with this project. I did have to take a bit of a break after getting trailer stuff released, but I should be good to go with this now. I will come back next month with another dev log.
Thanks for reading.
