- Random events? -


Heya! Before we begin, just know that this is simply an idea, which means this concept might not even make it into the final game. Just saying!

Anyways, I just got this cool idea. What if everytime you started a level for the first time or restarted a level after death, there is a 1/20-or-so chance a random event can occur that would make things more interesting and surprise you?

Think about it. What if you were doing so well in the game because everything went normally, but suddenly you enter some sort of sudden hard mode where Roguts spawn at a lightning fast pace? The music can even change to something else entirely to let you know that you are going to have a bad time. Maybe there will also be an event triggered that even gives certain objects different textures?

The random event system will be different depending on what level you play. For example, on one level, the grass floor may be replaced with green sand, and another level could switch to night if it’s day (or vise versa). One level can have clouds spawn and another can have the water dry out entirely.

This kind of system can really set in that every time you spawn or die and have to respawn, it canonically takes several days if not weeks, and it is not done instantly. I think that this is a cool concept that I should explore for Gooter. If I do implement the feature into the game, I will let you know. However, bear in mind that this feature will not make it into the demo for all to try, it will be tryable once the full game is out, or at least that is the plan.

After I work on the game all next week, I shall share my creation with the world! By the way, the game’s name is #gooter and it will be a 16-bit styled top down #shooter. I can’t wait to share with everyone! :)

I just found out that, other than Google, the second highest external source in terms of watch time is some website called “oceanhero.today”. I checked it out and it’s pretty cool. I think Google might have a little bit of competition now ;)
