Ranking all the Five Nights at Maggie's games (Part #1 In terms of horror)

Hello, everyone. Philip Buchanon from Nyctodream here. To celebrate (late) Halloween and the announcement of Five Nights at Maggie's 2, I decided to rank all the FNaM games in terms of how frightening they are. Meaning, I will not take the actual qualities, graphics, or story in these games into account. Just HOW SCARY they are. Let's head into it.

Five Nights at Maggie's (2016)
Wow, big surprise. THIS ended up being in the bottom. To summarise it very quickly, besides the crudely done models in the game giving off a slightly uncanny vibe (watch videos on why early 3D was scary, you'll get my point), which even then, isn't always present, there is nothing in this game that is genuinely all that spooky. Nothing else here, so let's move on.

Five Nights at Maggie's 3 (2018)

This game, while also being at the second to worst in the list again, but even if I do not enjoy this game (not anymore at least), I still do find it unironically scary. The way Cerdi and Jerry attempt to get to you in Night 1 by looking at you through the window and instantly rushing towards you to the doors is scary. The animatronics being faster in the dark can be spine chilling, especially since your flashlight is limited. Nightmare Cerdi and Jerry are... Scary at first, but once you see their full models... Eh, not so much. Night 5 was kinda scary too, I suppose. You are trapped in a small bloody room while looking outside the dark nothingness where two angry animatronics are coming at you. But, that's, like, it. While this game is a lot scarier than FNaM '16, and by that, it means it is scary while FNaM '16 wasn't, but on its own, and especially compared to other games in the series, or other FNaF games in general... No, not that scary. Slightly, sure. But not by a whole lot. There is one thing this game did that's less scary and more laughable than '16 tho. And that would be the jumpscare scream. It's laughable, you should hear it for yourself. Anyways...

Five Nights at Maggie's 4 (2020)

Five Nights at Maggie's 4 is a game I still enjoy to this day. But looking back now, I realised most of the fear factor can be attributed to the constant panic and stress it gives you, and not the crippling sense of dread. Don't get me wrong, remove the panic and stress caused by excessive managing in the game thanks to the carbon monoxide meter, the new animatronics making their way towards you, having to use audio to lure away, and you still have a game that does manage to scare you at times thanks to the animatronics creeping up on you in your only hiding spot in the dark with piercing white eyes and the horrific design of GC. But that's kinda it. FNaM 4 being a panic inducing stressful horror game isn't bad, however. There's a reason why I like Outlast after all (Even though that one also relies on bloody and gore too). But in my personal opinion, I prefer a more crippling sense of dread like in Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Five Nights at Maggie's 4 still is a good game. I just think the next 2 games did the scariness better.

Five Nights at Maggie's (2021)
Five Nights at Maggie's is, in my personal opinion, still the best in terms of, well, almost anything really. The game is really scary too. The dark, eerie, claustrophobic design of the restaurant, the child-friendly looking yet somehow still uncanny looking robots, Cerdi shoving his eyeless face in the camera and him running down the halls, ...Cerdi shoving his eyeless face in the camera and him running down the halls..., and the intimidating appearance of Guppy. Even though I still think his running animation is still pretty goofy looking. I know he's a broken animatronic and he is supposed to run weird but still, it's funny to look at. There's also the occasional easter egg of what I assume is the owner possessing the computer monitor. All of those are some pretty creepy stuff! But to me anyways, they don't compare to...

Five Nights at Maggie's 2 (2016)
How fitting that a game that earned the number 1 spot of being the scariest is also getting a reboot announced? Anyway, yes. FNaM 2 '16 (is what I will call it starting now) is still what I'd call the scariest game in the series so far. The FNaF 4 based mechanic of listening for breathing is back with revenge, as most animatronics will not kill you for instantly flashing at them when they are breathing, where as one of them does. And the one that does, Crackie, has mostly unpredictable behaviour. Meaning you HAVE to wait and listen for breathing or you give him an open invitation to rearrange your guts. All this, while you have 2 other looming threats, Guppy in the dark in front of you and Cerdi and Jerry coming from on top of you. Like, with Guppy, you know damn well he might've moved, but you don't know HOW much he moved. Which makes it unnerving when you see him REALLY close to you when you flash him, signaling that you were THAT close to fucking up big time, and when Cerdi and Jerry come to the vent, it's like a panic attack, especially when you are dealing with other animatronics and you hear the second vent clanging noise? Whenever that happens I was just like" FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUUUUUUUUUCK-" on the inside! This is still, in my opinion, the scariest FNaF fan game I played... That didn't try to be overly edgy (ahem, The Return to Freddy's 5, DORMITABIS_). Let's just hope that the reboot can improve from there when it comes to the scares.

Soooo, yea. That's all I gotta say. I still love *most* of the games in this series. And the reboot looked fantastic, too. I love this series a lot and I would like to see wherever else it goes. I also enjoy it because it took what worked from most FNaF games and expanded upon it without trying to be a blatant copy or strain too far from the formula. (Though, if you want to try something new with the FNaM series besides "survive untl 6 watching cams", Manuel, I wouldn't mind. You had a good blueprint with FNaM 3... It just wasn't that well executed.)

You know... I realised just now that this list is kinda samey from my first list. So for part 2, I will rank these games in terms of difficulty. Seeya guys then!
