Setting the scenery mood

So Trago was first born at a Game Jam. Since we knew the jam was about Rituals, we wanted to make this game about this guy that happen to meet this new bar in his way home and then he decides to pass by every night. since.

We wanted to bring the feeling of a really small pub of some random street of a big city that has nothing special in particular. The main mood inspiration for that was Edward Hopper’s Nightawks:

We can feel the loniless and misplacement of that silent empty strteet, right?

Another good reference was the pub that appears in Atlus’ Catherine game

We knew the mood we wanted. So we had 48 hrs to make all the art for it.

I thought the scenery was a good start. So after some sketch composition study, the colors was another important point to set up the mood. A simple composition with complementary colors - purple and organge - felt just right

And some hours later, that’s the result.
