Age regression is used in therapy (not commonly) to go back to old memories via guidance, one way to know how something happened is to hear their trauma firsthand, with reassurance, of course.
The other use is as a coping mechanism, which I will reveal that I use, but not as much as other people. For me, when I get too stressed, I will regress younger and younger depending on how high stress was to trigger it.
The age can vary from roughly 4 to about 12, and regardless of what age my mind is at for that current point, I won't talk very much, and I will not be able to focus on almost anything, so I will look towards sounds, lights, anything, but I won't speak.
The reason I don't engage very often is simply because I don't get THAT stressed anymore, and I take my time doing things.
Just so everyone knows, I only found out about using it as a coping mechanism and learned to AFTER I attempted suicide. (and no it wasn't easy, nor was it quick, as it took roughly until about early June this year to fully learn how.) Certain people with certain pasts may be more likely to learn it quicker.
Also, no, I can't teach you how, unfortunately
If you ever wonder how one would get out of this mind space, you just do, given enough time. Some things will forcefully bring you out as well.
So, now you know what age regression is, how it is used in a theraputical setting, and the fact I use it as a coping mechanism
