I’mma keep it real with y’all, I think I’m unhappy with how I handled this update.
The more I personally think about it, the more I realize I may have gotten way too ahead of myself when working on it. The goal of the graphics update was to give FNaDP a visual upgrade and add some new content to build upon the experience. But, when I look at it now, I may have taken the wrong approach to doing that.
I realized I have an even better opportunity here. The game has many other glaring flaws that, while admittedly nitpicky, are somewhat distracting when I think about it. With the nature of this update, I can’t do that fully. The game won’t be able to reach its full potential. My goal isn’t to please literally everyone. That’s impossible. My goal is to have fun and share my creativity with people. And part of that fun is making sure it’s fun for others as well.
If I were to simply update the visuals and add minimal new content, then less people will want to bother giving it a chance since, at it’s core, it’s basically the exact same game as the original with little major changes here and there. That’s not what I want anymore. I want something better. Something new.
And so, I have made an important change. Something I should’ve done from the start. I am going to split the update and the new content into two separate things. At least almost all of the new content that was planned for this update will instead be going into my next game project.
Five Nights at Dark Pit’s: Reascended (Working title)
A semi-complete remaster of Five Nights at Dark Pit’s. Complete with a soft re-write of the story for standard mode, remade old mechanics mixed with new ones, and almost all of the new content, including a possible second mode, new secrets, etc.!
Essentially, I’m putting the game through a soft reboot of sorts. At least almost all of the new content I originally planned for the update will be used here instead, so it’s not going to waste. Standard mode (A.K.A. the main game), however, will be recoded from the ground up with new graphics done mostly by me. Some graphics from the update, mainly the new office design by Solar-Neon, will be reused here, because I love the look of it. As for what lore and secrets this will have, I’ll tell you all another time.
The graphics update will be what it was from the start. A graphical upgrade. Nothing more. Nothing less. It will instead be released as an appetizer for Reascended.
This does unfortunately mean that the new stuff will take longer to come out, but hopefully this will make up for the long wait. I promise I will try to be more careful with how I make my games in the future.
(Oh yeah, side note. Meta Knightmares is not cancelled. Don’t worry. I still wanna finish that one. But, it is still on hold for the time being.)
