It's not gonna be free-roam. Listen, I tried to give it some thought, but after a bit, I just sorta came to the conclusion of... Man, fuck that noise.
Listen, pirate caverns as-is has always been a coding nightmare no matter where they're put in (Even now). And while I don't wanna half-ass anything in this game, I'd rather not spend 90% of it trying to chip away at learning free roam; In terms of that genre of fnaf fangame, I only know two things: Jack, and Shit. Jack also just left town, so he's definitely not going to be much help.
So, what do I do? Another sit-n-survive gameplay loop?

Yeah. Malrat did it, so I'll do it too.
For context, in malrat's unfinished 2.0 remaster, he had this little minigame called "floor 1", which was a sit-and-survive gameplay loop where you'd be in the pirate caverns, facing off of undying and the face.
So, I'm doing that, but before you click off, i encourage you to listen closely. For one, I'm not going to just flat-out remake Floor 1; that'd be a tad pedestrian; I actually have quite the idea on how to recontextualize it, as well as the role this serves storywise. After all, given that this is fnati 2, Jake has already explored the caverns, so what would he hope to fish out of there now?
For two, here's the real kicker; In lieu of it being an exploratory gamemode, I'm going to make it more of an escape room; there's a bunch of tools and things littered about that you need to interact with in a certain way to get the hell out of there. All the while two dudes try to hunt you down. Will it be hell to code?
Oh, most definitely. The easiest way to do this will be to make an entirely new office script, which means a new camera script, new jumpscares script, and have I MENTIONED how good sniffing some glue sounds right now.
Nevertheless, I think this is all something I'm far more comfortable handling; Instead of "It sounds difficult and I don't think I can do it", it's a lot more "it sounds difficult but there's probably a modicum of a chance I can do it". This way I'll need less glue than the alternative.
I'll be sharing updates of it as I go on. Probably won't show video footage 'till I get the thing actually up and running, but hopefully you won't have to wait long for that
see you then
