Perhaps I watch too much, and perhaps I look everywhere. But I’m just very curious to see people’s reactions to what I have made, and it’s only natural I’m going to do that!
I’ve noticed only a few people saying that making a horrifying fangame with The Wiggles isn’t right. There’s a user who said this specifically (I won’t say who and where for privacy reasons). They were an amazing artist who loved The Wiggles. They said the game wasn’t good because of it using something intended to be innocent, and making it something horrifying. I can easily see why this would upset them and I perfectly understand! Would I be upset if something I loved was turned into a brutal killer in a horror game? Well, I wouldn’t care, really, because anyone can do what they want as long as they aren’t intending to hurt anyone! And also I tend to have a darker sense of humor and I also like scary things. But again I do understand the way they feel about the game.
People may think I just saw the puppets and went “Ooh, let’s make this edgy!”. Okay, maybe that was how I was six years ago when I made these games in Little Big Planet 3 on my PS3 and later on my PS4. But I grew up with The Wiggles, and I still love their older work. It all feels very close to home whenever I see Space Dancing, Cold Spaghetti Western, and even the puppets. The puppets aren’t even scary to me. They’re silly and I actually genuinely love the way they look! Phobia is a combination of both FNaF and my favorite bits of my early childhood, The Wiggles. As dark and disturbing as it is, I’m putting care and love into these games, as a thank you to Scott Cawthon for inspiring me to continue making games, and for being a great and amazing person to look up to, and even a thank you to The Wiggles, for being so creative and fun for young me and many others. Some of those songs are absolutely well done, and all four of them have amazing singing voices! As dark as my stuff may seem, I love cartoons. I love some childish things. I’m not a creepy insane guy! I’m normal, but I’m kinda weird too, but I’m glad I am! It helps me creatively.
“This, isn’t the proper way to thank The Wiggles, you know that, right?”
Perhaps it isn’t, sure, that is correct. Maybe what I’m making still feels rather distasteful to some, but not all. I’m happy with my work, and if people think I’m trying to hurt people’s feelings, then I don’t know what to say. I’d suggest that, well, this isn’t for them.
Then again, if this becomes the most popular The Wiggle’s puppets thing, and more people become genuinely upset at me for that reason, what do I do? Do I continue on making my thing and say “oh well” to those people? Or do I decide, maybe that this is a little bit much for them, as this IS part of their childhoods too, not to mention probably a very good part! Maybe before I get further on the second game, maybe I should just consider that idea of changing the characters. Keeping them inspired, but not having them be The Wiggles. Maybe even adding more to the first game, re-adding Wendy or something, I don’t know. That might not happen.
Maybe I’m letting someone else’s thoughts get to me too much. This post isn’t an apology or anything, I just wanted to discuss Am I trying to make everyone happy? No, because I can’t, but I don’t want to feel like I’m doing something wrong, obviously. I want to be nice to people.
What does everyone think? Please reply to this post with your thoughts, and also PLEASE don’t say anything mean about this person, don’t go find them, don’t do anything to them. They’re an awesome artist and are very imaginative!
