the Crystal Gems live in an ancient temple and protect people from monsters and other threats. These Gems are ageless and genderless alien warriors that take on female human forms from magical gemstones at their core. The group includes Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, and Steven, a young boy who is half-human and half-Gem, having inherited his gemstone from his mother, Rose Quartz, the former leader of the Gems. As Steven learns about his growing powers, he spends his time going on missions with the Gems and hanging out with his dad Greg, his best friend Connie, his magical pet lion Lion, and the other residents of Beach City. He’s also exploring the powers he got from his mom, including fusion, which allows Gems to merge and create new, more powerful personalities. While Steven learns about his Gem roots, he discovers that the Crystal Gems are actually fugitives from a massive interstellar empire run by the Gem Homeworld. During their adventures, they explore ancient ruins that were once key to Gem culture but have been left to decay for thousands of years. Steven realizes that many of the creatures and items they find are Gems who were corrupted by a Gem weapon of mass destruction and can no longer look human. The Gem empire had plans to eliminate Earth to grow new Gems, but Rose Quartz led the Crystal Gems in a fierce rebellion against this horrific plan, and it seems they succeeded. In the middle of the first season, when Lapis Lazuli, a Gem who was trapped on Earth for ages, is freed, it puts the Crystal Gems in danger from the Gem empire again, leading to the arrival of enemies like Peridot and Jasper. In the second season, Peridot teams up with the Crystal Gems to take down a hidden Gem weapon that could wipe out the planet. By the third season, Lapis decides to stick around on Earth with Peridot, Jasper gets defeated and captured, and Steven finds out that his mom killed Pink Diamond, one of the leaders from the Gem homeworld. As he deals with his mixed emotions about this news, Pink's fellow Diamonds, Blue and Yellow, start focusing on Earth again. The fourth season wraps up with Steven being taken to the Gem homeworld to face trial for his mom's actions. After he escapes, he learns in the fifth season that his mom was actually Pink Diamond, who faked her death to live as Rose Quartz. Steven uses this info to convince the other Diamonds to own up to and fix the mess they've made (i hate all of the Diamonds sm.)
