I don't really see the similarities between DATA.MAC and MX other than same bulky body build. But I do see more similarities between DATA.MAC and Mario the Immortal.

Stupid fact, DATA was meant to look more like Mario the Immortal (otherwise known as Executable M) but Marvin made an error with his design, causing him to look like MX. It was just a goof.
