The beginning

Hello. I’m Wizard Mahri, a game developer, as well as an Yandere Simulator fan. Since I have some experience with Unreal Engine 4 from previous projects and enjoy Yandere Dev’s game, I thought that it would be cool to create an Yandere Simulator fan videogame. So, after getting the required permissions, I started the work.

Yandere Mages is a fantasy action game that has elements from several other genres. Compared to Yandere Simulator, Yandere Mages will go in a totally different direction. The game will have two settings, located in completely different universes. The first one is a Japanese high school, in which the prologue will take place (first week), and the other is a different type of school, Castle Darkridge. At Darkridge, mage students are trained.

Focus

In the case of gameplay, the game’s design will revolve around a variable called “Focus”. Imagine “Focus” as a health bar, that goes down in certain circumstances. Each student has a magic shield called ward, that protects them against attacks. If Ayano is for example hit by a fireball, the “Focus” level will lower, then go back up with a certain speed. If Ayano casts a spell, the “Focus” will also lower, making the player pay attention at what skills he uses.

Max Focus

Focus is not influenced only by attacks and spellcasts, it is also influenced by character’s psychic state. The psychic of the character limits the max focus it could sustain. Max focus can be lowered in several cases:

Instant emotions

If Ayano is near Senpai, her max focus will drop the closer she is to him, making her vulnerable in case of a possible attack.

If you get the attention of a rival on something, for example, by creating a diversion, she would concentrate on that thing, and her max focus will get lowered. This would give Ayano an opportunity to kill her.

Long term emotions

If you manage to make a rival suffer emotionally, for example by lowering her reputation, her max focus will drop, making her an easier target to kill.

Max focus of the rivals can also be lowered by defeating them in nightmares.

Nightmares

In Yandere Mages, nightmares will be dungeons created by the rivals minds. When Ayano is sleeping, rivals or enemy yanderes will try to connect to her mind in order to throw her in their nightmare. Since each rival will have a different personality, their worlds will share some of their traits.

In nightmares, you will travel a path, fight monsters and finally beat the boss, which will be the rival itself. Of course, fighting a rival in a nightmare will be much easier than fighting them while awake. However, if you succeed defeating them, their max focus will lower, giving you an advantage. If you fail, your max focus will lower.

Locations

Besides the Japanese school and Darkridge, there will be several other locations that you could visit. How could you go there ? You will see in the next post, which will focus on lore.

#The current state of the game

Currently, you can explore the japanese school, which is still under construction. I want your feedback on it, how would you like it to be etc. I wish to collaborate with the community from the very beginning,

As I said before, the next post will focus on lore, more precisely a brief history of Darkridge. So far I have written most of it. I will post it soon.
