Hey guys! It’s Internaut and today I thought I’d tell you what the real story behind ADoM’s O’Kane family. IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED THE GAME, PLEASE AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS! Before I continue though, thank you all for 160 plays! That’s a crazy amount in 3 days! Thank you!
OK, now let’s get started with that lore!
Let’s go aaaaaall the way back, around 1995, 20 years before the game when Mark is merely a baby where it all starts with a love story. Clyde and Erin met in their senior year of high school. Both started off as friends but, as what usually happens in situations like this, they fell in love and eventually become a couple. They were head-over-heels in love with each other and were almost inseperable.
Now, Erin came from an incredibly wealthy family so, after about 5 years of dating, Clyde and Erin moved into the family’s old manor on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio (Erin’s family moved away to a new manor just outside Cinncinati). Shortly after they moved in, Erin discovered that she is expecting a baby. Fast forward to late 2000, they had a daughter, Astrid.
Despite now living together and having a daughter, Clyde and Erin never married. Astrid grew up to be a loving, intelligent girl who thrived in school. They were a picture perfect family. Aged 10, Astrid discovered YouTube. She started off watching silly cat videos before moving on to videos by big time YouTubers. That’s when she discovered Mark’s channel. For the next 3 years, Astrid became a huge fan of Mark. Even Clyde and Erin enjoyed watching the videos with their daughter!
In 2013 for Astrid’s birthday, Erin and Clyde got tickets to PAX East for Astrid so that she could go and meet her hero, Mark, in the flesh. Of course, she was ecstatic and, that following April, Erin and Astrid set off for their trip to Boston. Clyde couldn’t come due to work commitments so he stayed at home while his partner and daughter went away.
On their way to the airport that evening, a mere half an hour away, a deer ran out into the road in front of the car the mother and daughter were driving in. In a desperate bid to avoid the deer, Erin swerved causing the car to lose control and roll into a ditch before finally hitting a tree, crushing the driver’s side.
Paramedics came and checked Astrid over, who was fine apart from some whiplash, cuts and bruises and a minor head injury. Erin, however, wasn’t fine. She was rushed to hospital with serious and life-threatning injuries. Astrid was taken to hospital along side her mother. Unfortuanately, a few hours after the crash, Erin died from her injuries aged 36. Both Astrid and Clyde were devastated. However, after a few months as Astrid was beginning to get over the grief of losing her mother, Clyde was not doing as well as his daughter. He became more and more violent towards his daughter who he once cherished and turned to alcohol for comfort.
About half a year after his wife’s death, Clyde began to beat Astrid much to her dismay. He became very controlling of her; forbidding her from going to school, deciding what clothes she were to wear and what times she would eat. Sometimes, he would lock her door and bedroom windows in paranoia that his daughter would escape. Distraught and helpless, Astrid turned back to Mark for comfort although Clyde now came to hate how happy he made his daughter. Astrid began writing diary entries discussing the daily abuse she went through as well as her wish to meet Markiplier someday.
Eventually, in early 2015, after almost a year and a half of beatings from her father, Astrid caught pneumonia due to her father’s negligence and mistreatment of her. He was angry with her for being sick and hid medicine from her for no particular reason.
One day, Astrid had trouble breathing and, in rage after finding Astrid’s hidden iPad, he smothered her to death with a pillow. He told everyone that Astrid had died due to pneumonia and people believed him.
A few days after her death, Clyde was approached by Darkiplier who saw Clyde’s hatred for Mark and persuaded him to find a way to try and kill Mark on his way past the manor. Clyde agreed with Dark’s proposition and preperation began. Clyde would pretend he was a ghost to prevent Mark from hurting him while Dark created evil clones of some of Mark’s closest friends in hopes that they would thwart him when he entered the manor.
Finally, the trap was set. Dark set a cat onto the road in front of Mark’s car causing Mark to crash his car in front of the house. And that is where the player’s view of the story begins.
