The following text was translated from ancient inscriptions deep within angel island.

"When this plane of existence was made, the species born into it wouldn't live forever, and could die quite fast. That was why the guardians were born, although into another plane of existence, between life and death.

There were 3 guardians :

A guardian that was said to take the form of a future hero.

A guardian that was said to take the form of a future hero's sidekick and friend.

A guardian that was said to take the form of- (the text here seems to be carved out of the wall, for an unknown reason)

The 3 guardians were in charge of making sure that, when a creature passed away, it would be guided to the correct place. If a creature were to somehow get into this plane whilst being alive, it would be promptly sent back.

The guardian resembling the hero was very adamant with his role, and strived for completion.

The guardian resembling the hero's sidekick and friend was a bit more carefree, although a bit of a worrier. He wanted to be nicer, but ultimately the job would still be complete and the soul would pass on.

The guardian resembling the (again, the text here is missing) was not good at his job. When the other two guardians weren't looking, he would absorb the souls to get more power, greedily destroying that person just for the sake of getting stronger and overthrowing the other two.

This greedy guardian finally built up enough soul energy to attempt to destroy the other two guardians. The other two guardians were able to survive, though they were very badly injured afterwards. They were able to banish the corrupt guardian to the deepest layers of the underworld, where he'd stay and slowly go mad overtime. However, the third guardian was never seen again."
