So lately POPGOES has become really trendy because of Evergreen, and Fan-made revivals of The Dead Forest been popping up, But a lot of fan-made POPGOES 2 revivals of been getting canceled. I've been looking into it a bit and I think I'm beginning to understand why.
Let's start off by taking a look at @TeamArctic 's POPGOES 2. They canceled their POPGOES 2 Revival due to similar reasons as the original. Pretty much nothing was done after months. The CEO of Team Arctic is making a joke revival of POPGOES 2, but it's actually doing better than the major revival. (Follow it! - @BLKLITE) But it's looking like the team isn't exactly getting things done. If this seems to be the case, ask your team members if everything is okay, if they're having any issues, etc.
Next up is POPGOES Aftermath by @Icotrophobe. Not entirely sure why this one was canceled. It seems to have been making good progress! I'll update this part when I get some confirmation.
Quote from Icrotrophobe "Aftermath was canceled for a multitude of reasons, one of them was the issue of character models, I had been waiting a year and a half for the character modeler to deliver results, then they ended up busy with other things. Up until about 2 months ago, the modeler was replaced with someone who could finish a character within a week. This modeler required payment, so it took time for me to set up the funds to pay for them.
Another reason was just that I was never happy with how the game visually looked. Either it was the materials or the lack of detailed props, never did and still don't like how the game looked in some parts.
About a month ago, the game was actually going to brought into full 3D environments. So things like full freeroam would be possible(although we were going to stick to point and click).
Then about 4 days ago, including Kane himself, He didn't like the lack of originality in the game, which I do admit, alot of the stuff from Evergreen has influenced the game visually, Although I tried my best to be original. Eventually we all agreed that working on the game for another year would be a gargantuan waste of my time, so the cancelation happened." It honestly looks like if the current character modeler isn't getting stuff done, try finding other character modelers maybe.
Next is Sweet Lou's. Its not exactly a P2 revival, but its kinda like one so I'm gonna include it. It was looking pretty promising but @AoraOffical has been missing from the internet for 5 months, meaning the team is pretty much disbanded. The only thing finished was a prototype of Sweet Lou's arcade. You can view it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6O9s7Bp6yY&feature=youtu.be
Those 2 are the main ones I can remember. I've looked at some P2 Revivals and I'm pretty sure ones like "POPGOES: The Return" won't work out. (Pretty sure it's just a kid). But the main POPGOES 2 Revival that I think will see the light of day is POPGOES 2: Simon Says by @DevilhellGamesStudio.
What is Devil doing differently than the other ones? For starters, I don't see anything extremely complicated from the given previews. It looks like a pretty normal game. Things are getting modeled, and stuff is being coded! It had 2 previous names, The Seniko Static, and Green Gas. The 1st one had reasonings, but Devil decided to change it. The 2nd one just made no sense. Anyway, if I had to take a guess on why its actually getting somewhere, it's because the ideas aren't too complicated. Devil is also not using Clickteam, which is very limited. He's using a CUSTOM game engine which is known as Devil Engine 2.1 . 3D engines often have a lot more stuff you can do with them. (Including the original sky system that was gonna be used in Evergreen). And 3D Engines allow more stuff you can do!
This is pretty much why I think most POPGOES 2 Sequels don't work out.
