This article is a general update on FNAF Rewritten's development so you know what to expect in the future

This is just a general collection of stuff I’ve wanted to say for a while, things about what to expect from me, what I think about the fan game community, and general project and life updates. I felt like making this after seeing @TheresNoSteak ’s recent article. These past few months have been crazy! I’ve gained a big following and being noticed by other creators I enjoy the work of has been awesome. Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed my games and 3D art!

I want to start out by talking about how I see FNAF Rewritten. I’ve seen a lot of fan games recently being worked on by big teams of lots of talented people. This is awesome and leads to the quality of fan-games becoming higher and higher. But this also leads to the quality that people expect to become higher as well.

FNAF Rewritten is not one of those projects right now. While I am planning to open up to collaborators soon (i’ll talk about that later) the games have been made almost entirely by me aside from some 2D artists joining the team recently. That includes programming, 3D modeling, rigging, animating, UI design, game design, lighting, sound design, etc. I don’t have a big team of testers or a dedicated programmer. Outside of FNAF, I specialize in 3D prop modeling, this whole project has been a way for me to try new things and step out of my comfort zone. Unfortunately, that means I am not an expert on most of what I have to do, this leads to stuff like bugs that I have no idea how to fix.

But to me this is fine, I use FNAF fan-games as a way to take a break from the professional work I have to do for school and original IP projects. I can be quick and messy with FNAF. These are free games that I make FOR FUN! I don’t have to worry about customers refunding or porting to new devices to make more money. The only reason I have been boosting the quality recently is because of MY OWN STANDARDS! I have grown a lot as an artist and want my work to reflect that! I could care less about my game vs. other fan games out right now.

There was a while when I was considering starting a Patreon page to try to get some extra support while I’m in school. I eventually decided not to do this, as profiting from my fan work and having to be responsible for providing content to paying supporters would mean I have to take this more seriously. I won’t be starting a Patreon until my next original project, and I’m glad I am, I have been using what I would have used as Patreon posts as PCRF donation goals and it's hard to keep up!

Recently I’ve been considering opening FNAF Rewritten up to collaborators, but I’m worried people will see this as one of the many fan games that run like a serious production. If I do open up to collaborators I will handle it like how I’ve been working with my friends so far. Everything is casual, only contribute what you WANT to, deadlines are suggestions and don’t have to be met, and everyone gets a decent amount of creative freedom as I would leave stuff I am particular about to myself. The reason why I want to have more people on the project is because of time. I am in college right now studying 3D game art! It has been a pain trying to balance my fan-game work with my schoolwork. While I usually don’t care about fan-game deadlines, if I want to ever finish the Rewritten project before my professional career gets busy I HAVE to finish FNAF 3 by the end of this summer vacation, and I don’t think I can do that on my own. This weekend I overworked myself so much that I had to stay home all of Monday to recover, missing a class that will be a pain to make up. I don’t want that to happen again!

I will most likely offer all of these roles to my friends at art school before posting an official offer online. But, if you are interested, I will most likely ask for help with UI design, sound design, music, and animation (although animation will probably have less creative wiggle room).

If you have other skills and want to help, a few other fan game devs and I want to do a bigger charity event this summer that would add several DLC-sized expansions to FNAF 1 Rewritten, similar to the FNAF in Real Time crossover! We need ANY help we can get with that! So keep an eye out for that. I will most likely ask for character and prop modelers, animators, music and sound help, and UI help.
