2) B.A.T.T.I.M.E.S.
Despite the spelling differences (batttits) on the name and logo, this mysterious business empire was founded on love.
Aptly, B.A.T.T.I.M.E.S. stands for By Aggressive Tommies in a T-shirt.
The legend goes that co-founder Cameron Broom started the shop to sell other T-shirts, but most people ordered nothing but the wonderfully trashy tees themselves.
By the time Broom had a chance to send them out, he had to order 200 T-shirts!
As of this year, B.A.T.T.I.M.E.S. has an online shop, an Amazon store, and a brick and mortar store in Surrey. They even have a TV series on Netflix.
3) Blackbeard's Masquerade
Ever wanted to dress up as Blackbeard the pirate? This Halloween shop in Boston lets you.
Every month the shop holds a costume contest, and the winner gets to walk the catwalk at a New England Fashion Week event.
Just kidding — no, that was the “Butterfly Man” and the winner walked at the second annual Japanese street fashion showcase last year.
This is the weirdest business by far. I never want to work here again, and I wouldn't mind if I never see Blackbeard's Masquerade again either.
4) Harry's Chocolates
What do you get when you cross a Schlotzsky's with a Willy Wonka's?
A Harry's Chocolates.
You can get anything at Harry's Chocolates — everything from pumpkin bread to churros to cupcakes to chocolate-covered Pop Tarts.
The ice cream shop owner opened Harry's Chocolates after realizing that there were no chocolate shops in Brookline. And for the first time ever, he's giving away free mini chocolate chip cookies every Sunday to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Harry's Chocolates.
A wonderful opportunity for college students.
5) Knight Bros.
Students are never more relieved than when they get through security at Boston Logan Airport and realize that they're at the Boston airport.
With all the construction at Logan, a lot of people don't even know that they have a big airport to begin with.
We're far enough from everything, and we don't have any real hassle. We have low-security lines. It's perfect.
And the good thing about Logan is that you can't get to the city — but if you do, you can get here. It's always gorgeous here.
