To preface, my game is designed to be played seriously as a COMPETITIVE FIGHTING GAME. It's designed for people who play fighting games as opposed to people who are just Sonic fans. And while there's nothing wrong with my game reaching past the target audience, the issue arises when those are the ONLY people playing my game.
How does a game look when everyone who plays doesn't know what they're doing? It makes it look bad. It also doesn't help when people complain about obvious things like "The controls are confusing/I don't know my buttons" Not only is there a controls page on the sage booth, but you have the option to configure your own controls. Another interesting one I get is that the commands in the Movelist are hard to understand and that "the creator should just use buttons that people understand". The Mugen engine cannot recognize if you have an Xbox or PlayStation remote. As much as I'd love to, I genuinely CANNOT change that. Hence, I use a universal button layout. Light/Heavy Punch & Kick, Emerald, Launch. Pretty simple, right? Guess not 🤷🏽♂️.
The worst part is, my game & I are both unknown so if I post anything correcting said mistakes nobody sees it. I'm kinda fighting a losing battle here. To be completely honest, it just ends up being demotivating instead of motivating me to do better, mainly because I'm starting to move towards disregarding other opinions when I know that I'm in the right. I'm trying to stay positive about this whole thing but when you have to deal with this for 2 years straight it just gets to a point bro.
I'll continue to work on Sonic Fighting Heroes, but I think I'm gonna slow down on trying to get so many opinions. Not saying I don't appreciate things like finding bugs and glitches or things if that sort, but once it turns into just somebody's opinion, that's where I stop listening, ESPECIALLY when it's from someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.
And another thing, don't compare anyone's passion project to another fangame. I'm not trying to be Sonic Smackdown and I don't care to be compared to it. I've been keeping up with Smackdown since it first dropped and it's a completely different experience compared to my game. Once again, no hate, but maybe don't compare a fangame created by professionals to something made by a highschooler in his freetime. That's just loser behaviour bro.
Anyways, thanks for reading all that if you did. I might post something later on about whether I'll continue participating in SAGE or return to my practically non-existent audience. As far as I'm concerned and statistically speaking, it wouldn't really change much for the publicity of my project.
Thanks,
SonicSkills
