Heya, ZerJox is still alive! What a relief. Anyways, how are you all doing? I hope you're all fine and well. So, 3 years huh? Days flew by and I didn't even felt it, time moves fast not gonna lie.
By the way, can we appreciate the new look of the gamepage? I would like to thank Gagatoeau666 for the awesome thumbnail, they really smashed it. Also I want to thank Xeron, for the cool looking game banner we got up there. Truly amazing.
Anyways, enough about all this, you want to see how's this game doing right? Well I will cut it short for ya. We have done some, well, decent progress over the past months. It was kind of hard to pull a lot though because we, or well I lacked motivation to make progress. But eventually, we pulled out enough work to show you today! So without further ado, let's jump right into it!
[STORY]
I can finally say that the whole new, remastered story for Undertale Last Breath has been written and completed by yours truly. In fact, I just finished it last week haha! Not because it was hard to figure out ideas for it, I just didn't schedule a time to finish it.
The ideas were in my mind for so long, though I had to connect the dots and plots and figure out a direction to finish this story in a good way. Until one day, my mind snapped out ideas out of nowhere and got motivated to finish the last part, which was Chapter 3 in this scenario. You gotta like how ZerJox's brain work sometimes, it's probably because I've been watching a lot of anime nowadays heh.
Now, I can't really talk about how this whole Chapter 3 sequence will work out yet, I would like to keep it a secret for now. I will give you one hint though. This story doesn't only have one ending.
[GAME DEVELOPMENT]
Alright, I don't even know from where I should start. You can skip this whole dialogue by the way and [Click here] to see the whole development so far, you wouldn't bother to read my mumbling.
The progress of the game itself was just going up and down for the past months. I get motivated to work on the game, do work for 2 or 3 weeks, then I get burned out for a month or two. It has been this way since the last devlog, and honestly I tried to not rush things, and I won't. In order to make this game perfect I had to focus on little details and figure out ways to make this game more "stylish", and I think we're getting there.
Now some of you might ask "What about the other coders in the team?". They actually help me when I need them, they're kind people and they don't hesitate to guide me. It's just that I don't want to bother them much, because each team member has a work of their own. And besides, I like to figure out stuff by myself. That's just how I want to develop myself as a person.
Anyways if you read all of this and still haven't clicked on [Click here], what's wrong with you?
[SPRITES AND ASSETS]
As for the assets in the game, we haven't done much really. Most of the time I make concepts and use them as placeholders until another member from the team to make the final version. If you've seen the progress video up there, all the assets on that video are the final/official versions.
We basically remade most things from the first devlog and added more stuff. Other than that, this is all we have so far.
As for the other chapters, we haven't done anything final for them. Just some concept arts to define the final version of the assets. And yeah, that's about it.
[MUSIC AND THEMES]
Last time, this was a struggle for me. Since at the time, even after finding musicians we didn't get that much progress on the songs. Most composers tend to leave sometimes or cut contact to the team. And I completely understand why, because music is more of a feeling than just some instruments slapped together, and motivation won't push your progress forward. In fact, the more motivated you are the more stressed you will feel.
So the only logical way I had in mind in order to progress on this category, was to find more musicians! After all, this game now will have over 10+ songs, both minor and major songs. And what did y'know, we got a new team of musicians now that are willing to put it all for the sake of this project, and honestly I'm proud of each and every one of them. They tend to surprise me sometimes when I see them care about the game more than I do. Right now, I have posted some finished music on ULB's Soundcloud, which you can check if you [Click here]. Also, we had a scrapped song that meant to be the battle theme for Sans' Phase One, made by Snowy/Synth Mints. Sadly it ended up scrapped because it didn't match the feeling we had in mind for the Sans battle, but regardless you can listen to it [Here].
Worry not though, right after it got scrapped Snowy started remaking the song the same day, and the progress on it is growing fast. What a chad. Not to mention the other team members that are still working to serve you the best music ULB has to offer. Truly wonderful!
[APPRECIATIONS & SHOUT-OUTs]
It's amazing that, even though ULB was silenced for sometime, the community still shows love and support to the project. I really love to see when people create stuff about this project, and the amount of effort they put into them is very heart-warming.
This year I decided to shout-out some fan-works that, in my opinion, are the best I have ever seen this year.
To start of, Undertale Last Breath - ECHO Animation by Yamata41. Now there is nothing I can say about this other than perfection. The way Yamata took the story and twisted the idea of two hackers inside one game was clever. Not to mention the song, which is a banger, but also the original ECHO Undertale animation was one of ULB's inspirations! So, great work my friend, you're awesome.
Next and most recent one we had,【undertaleAU】Last breath sans phase3 animation ~preview~ by Nocochip. The moment I saw this on Twitter, I jumped. I was like "How? Why??". Jokes aside though, this was really unexpected at first, but it's truly amazing to watch. And the fact that the animator is still tempted to work on it kept me motivated to work on ULB for two months straight (new score record woo-). It was also cool chatting with them in their Twitter space. The fact that I was the only English person and them trying to speak the language was funny XD. But yeah, this ULB anime animation is just wonderful to watch, and I can't wait to watch the full thing when it's finished. Also, what's Nocochip doing on the page's description?
Lastly, DUSTTALE: LAST GENOCIDE by Team DTLG. I don't care what people will say about this one, the fact that they managed to pull this off and finish it shows how good of a team they are. It's nice to see a fully fledged ULB fan-game, and besides it actually looks decent. As I am not too much of a fan to the Dusttale concept in general, I still like how they mixed it to ULB's mysteriousness. Overall, it's a nice fangame to play. Good work Team DTLG!
[END OF DEVLOG]
Well, what did you think? I hope you enjoyed all that. I know it isn't much to show, given the whole time we had to bring more to the plate. But you got to understand something. I am a 20 years old man now, studying in a university, and all I'm doing here is to serve some joy to my boredom. But now that I think about it, I have been doing this for almost 4 years now. I sometimes don't find a point of continuing anymore...
