Hey everyone! We hope everyone had a fantastic 2025! Due to the year ending, we'd like to give a status update regarding the future of Undertale Plus leading into 2026.
As the title suggests, Undertale Plus will see a release in 2026.
We have been working hard behind the scenes to let everyone get their hands on what we've been cookin'. The team has been in hyperdrive mode these last couple of months to make sure that we can get the mod into your hands ASAP. As such, we've wanted to share a progress report on how much is left.
Main Programming - 95% done
The mod is playable from start to finish. The remaining pieces of programming are simply the installer (Undertale Mod Manager) and a few more features that have yet to be implemented.
One of the final quality-of-life features has been implemented in the last month actually, that being update detection! Whenever your client is out-of-date, Undertale Plus will automatically detect it by looking at our website's backend! We've also connected our Discord Bot to the same backend, so there's (hopefully) no way to miss an update whenever one's ready!
Music - 95% done
We're in the final stages for one last track for the initial release, and then music will be good to go! Once the mod is released, all the music will be available on our YouTube.
Sprites - 90% done
Armor sprites are being finalized as we speak! As such, some team members are moving onto finalizing some more niche elements, such as title screen decoration, additional sprites for Widescreen, etc. The finish line is in sight!
Widescreen - 20% done
This percentage is hard to quantify and can potentially be misleading... as of right now, rooms up to the beginning of Snowdin have been completed. Some areas will be tougher than others to develop, so while we're 20% through the list of rooms, this may not accurately represent how much work we have left. That being said, once the additional Widescreen sprites are complete, Widescreen development should be full steam ahead.
Bug fixes - ???
Playtesting is a difficult thing to measure, as we never know what bugs may be introduced in every patch. Measuring aside, our playtesters have been doing a great job finding and documenting as many bugs as possible whenever a new development build is ready.
Translation - 100% done
Translation into Japanese has been finished! Woohoo!
Website - 95% done
The website is almost done! The main thing left to do is polish, polish, polish - and write up the install guide, which we'll have a clearer vision for once we're ready for release.
Release Readiness - ~70% done
The release trailer, website, and programming are all essentially ready, but there's still a lot of small bits to wrap up. Once the lead programmer gives the go-ahead, we should be ready to start pushing out public promotional material for the first release.
Again, we don't have a set release date yet. Many things can come up mid-development that can push our release window back, but we're inching ever closer to the finish line...
The only thing we can give with certainty is that we will see a release in 2026. (screenshot if this ages poorly)
That's all for now! We're in a part of development where showcasing progress can be difficult, so the best we can do is try to give accurate descriptions and progress estimates. We'd like to release as soon as we possible can, and (hopefully) this devlog reassures you all that we are still hard at work!
We hope to share more soon!
