This was on my mind earlier this morning and the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.
Most 'original' fnaf fan-games with a unqiue style of gameplay shouldn't even really be considered fan-games (unless the creator deems so, but I digress). A good example would be Tealerland, originally Flumpty's (but its now fnaf ip), Mary's Arcade, and many many more.. If you were to make a fan-game and it had an original cast and story but had actual pieces of fnaf material then decide to go original and take out the copyrighted assets I see Nothing wrong with that - Although, the FNaF community would disagree and grab torches and pitchforks. And honestly it's sad. There's so many talented game devs/teams that make games far better than scott ever could but they're scared of the backlash they'd most likely get if they go "original". A rare instance of this NOT happening is DEERWOOD. Suprisingly, people were accepting of it but not dissappointed, and my conclusion to that is because the game currently remains Free as the main developer said. And that's what's kind of sad, I believe developers and teams should have their games be listed as paid for their hardwork. Who CARES if the concept of "robots come alive at night to kill you" was already a thing? I mean like, Scott wasn't the first to do it. Shocker?! A good example is Child's Play! or the 1980s action movie, The Terminator (in that film, they don't come alive at night to start their crazy evil shenanigans but the main idea of where I'm getting at is there).
Where are you getting at?
Well my friends, and amazing supporters, I'm seriously debating if I should completely have Frankie's go original or not. If so the main idea is to have a "demo" version on gamejolt and mobile stores but have the full paid version on steam and consoles.
At the same time I feel like I don't want to because the lore I already have written works so well with some of the fnafy stuff already in place for the game. And FNaF is one of my most favorite games of all time...
As I said before, I want to get paid for doing things I like and create things that people will enjoy. Being an indie developer/game director as a full-time job seems so much like a literal dream job lol..
I'll continue to talk about this to the team and friends and make my ultimate desicion there. In the mean time, I'm gonna continue working on the secret project that is yet to be revealed...
GAMES SHOULD GO ORIGINAL!! (if they were "original fan-games" in the first place.)
