Hey Everyone
This is a rather depressing post to be writing but it is one that must be made all the same.
Rumours have been filtered around about Sister Location: Unreal Engine Edition being cancelled. People have been freaking out, messaging me, worried and unsure of the truth. So here’s the truth.
When I first decided to create this project, I did it for fun, I did it because I wanted to see what I could add to the original Sister Location that people wanted but didn’t receive. From there, a deep lore was created for SLUE4 and I loved opening up Scott Cawthon’s world to explore all the different possibilities. Something I believed to be as a side project, got so much support that it developed into a central project of mine.
I’ve loved everything to do with SLUE4, both the tough times and the good times. I’ve learnt so much about game developing and I’ve learnt so much about myself as well.
To most of you, who check in with the project every now and then, probably think I’m not very active anymore and there’s not much to see. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I do stuff related to SLUE4 every single day of my life. If I’m not coding, I’m planning. If I’m not creating the environments, I’m working with people to get certain elements added to the game. While most of the team have finished all of their input for the game, there’s so much that still needs to be done.
Recently, I was testing the game and I realised how jolty and bumpy the gameplay was. The coding was not something I was proud of. Yes, the game worked and yes, a lot of you wouldn’t of minded about small bugs, but it’s not something I would release. I learnt my mistake with Lost and Found, I told myself I would never release another one like it again.
Sister Location: UE4 is such an awesome project and idea. Bringing Scott’s 2D environments to life has been exciting and thrilling to do. I am personally a major fan of recreating environments from movies or games and adding my own touch to them. And so that is what I did with SLUE4. It’s still Sister Location, but it’s my Sister Location.
Now, I am confirming here that Sister Location: Unreal Engine Edition is cancelled. This game is no longer in development and will not be passed onto any other developers to continue. Having said that, it would be an insult to the fans to just shut this game down and remove the game page then say sayonara. I will be releasing something as a tribute to everything this game has involved. You guys are so amazing and your support is so incredible.
So, expect something, don’t expect something big, but expect something.
There are a few major reasons for me cancelling this game, but the mains ones are time and practicality. My life has changed so much over the past year or so. I have so many other commitments and responsibilities which have taken spare time away from me. These commitments are doing things I love but things that I also don’t have a choice in doing. Making a game on the side is just not something I can do. It’s not something I feel comfortable doing when I can’t dedicate enough time to. There is no point in me putting in ten minutes a day, because then development becomes disjointed and erratic. I don’t want to give false hope to over three thousand people if I can’t deliver a finished product that is polished.
I’m so sorry that I am cancelling this game. But it is the right thing to do, it is what I feel is the best thing to do.
Stay posted for more devlogs, and strap yourselves in, because this is going to be one bumpy ride…..for everyone.
