Isaac's Adventure - A Binding of Isaac RPG

Want some more? You got more!

Hey guys! It’s been a while, but due to the stupid length of all the “breaks” I take from Gamejolt you probably didn’t even notice I was gone!

So let’s get straight to the point. When I looked back in my notifications feed (after what felt like several months, maybe even a year), I saw the ratings, comments and follows you gave Isaac’s Adventure, and I was overwhelmed by the positive reception it received. Right now, I’d say that it’s done better than the entire SFS series combined with the reception it received from all of you wonderful people, which is just as well because all this time a sequel has been in the works….

And this is no ordinary Scatterbrain RPG, no. Recently I was able to put an end to my strapped-for-cash days of old and I upgraded to the full version of RPG Maker VX Ace! With this more powerful version of a tool I already use a lot I can now make something more ambitious, more sophisticated, more…”full” than any of my projects to date.

Announcing, Diary of Flandre Scarlet!

Now, I understand the title doesn’t exactly scream “Isaac’s Adventure 2”, but let me explain. If you made it all the way to the end of Isaac’s Adventure, you’d have seen a little tidbit in the credits that alluded to the plot of the sequel. Right now I’m writing said plot on an actual script so I have something to keep referring to during development. I’ve taken a ‘freeform’ approach to the stories in my games before, but now I want it to be a bigger focus as the tale of our cute/crazy little vampire unfolds over 6 acts - yes, after countless cameo appearences Flandre Scarlet is now taking centre stage as the main protagonist, with a few other returning series veterans as well.
For those interested, here’s the basic synopsis….

“Meet Flandre Scarlet, a shy vampire girl who dwells in the basement of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and has been doing so for 495 years. (I mean, to stay in there all that time you’d have to be pretty darn reclusive) She’s watched over by Patchouli Knowledge, a quiet librarian who’s also made herself a second home in the basement. One day as the two were chatting, when Flandre left she noticed a trapdoor had mysteriously appeared without warning. It leads to a world she never knew was so close to her - a world full of monsters, demons, angels, undead folks and other crazy characters, some of which seem to be suspiciously familiar.

But why was Flandre called here? Only one way to find out….”

So, yeah. Flandre explores Isaac’s world which is somehow connected to hers. It’s all connected. But what this all means for her is a mystery, which she must solve in a quest spanning more floors than the original Isaac’s Adventure, and plenty more enemies and antagonists to boot. As a proof of concept I’ve uploaded Flandre’s sprite here - just in case you were bored of all-text devlog posts. It’ll also give you a taste of the (admittedly clumsily sized) flavour of what’s to come.

This is my first real custom sprite made in this style, so please tell me what you think in the comments below.

As for Force of Legend, I’ve decided that can wait - since it’s planned to be a paid release, I’d rather do another ‘big project’ first and see what feedback I get from that so I can ensure that the paid product is better than the free stuff and is presented at the standard that it needs to be.

That’s all for now. Expect a few teasers soon - there’ll be more than enough material for it!

Hi everyone! I started to create some environment props for my new video game, here is a cozy house in the forest. I'm planning to switch from Unity to Unreal... Let's see what new challenges I have to face. Made in Blender and Substance Painter.
