Now Weaving Tides is a nicely worked out game which combined elements of puzzling and bit of adventure and a few unique elements together.
I must say, I only played the demo which I stumbled upon which was released while the game was still in development. I found out in the meantime is now available on Steam.
For this review I'll focus on the development demo.
In this game you assume the role of Tass, a human boy in the weaver's world. A world entirely woven. You travel on the back of kind of a creature whom Tass appears to regard as a father.
Basically you move around the map while floating like this and you can make stich points at some points and the ribbon floating behind you will will be used to weave. This weaving is actually the key of nearly everything to be done in this game. You can repair holes in the floor with that, but you can also use weaving to tie up unfriendly creatures who'd love to kill you. This weaving aspect makes the game quite unique and also that you have to teach yourself a new way of thinking to get things done.
Now from time to time you can get into towns where more of the scenario unrolls and where you are able to buy stuff. The stuff you buy is, of course, all dedicated to weaving as well and to enable you to gain advantage over your enemies or the way to puzzle things out.
Now the graphics style of the game looks very inviting and the way everything in the world around you is dedicated to weaving and other ways to get things done with fabric and chords and ribbons and well, you name it, really appears to work out and the background music also appears to set the proper mood.
This game is not the kind of game for when you are in a hurry, though. You need to look well, analyze the situation and come up with a proper way of working to get yourself through the game. That does NOT mean the game is (too) easy though. It just means you gotta take your time and do things right.
The style in which the in-game menus are set up is simple, yet clear and functional, and here too you see the bit of the style based on the chosen theme.
A nice addition aside from the adventure mode is the playground feature in which you can just weave around for fun. Like I did in the screenshot above weaving my initials. In the lower left corner you can find a device you can use to reset the playground.
Weaving Tides is one of those games you should definitely give a try. The game is really well themed and styled and very original in its basic mechanics.
