Winter Devlog - NIGHTFELL (an Underfell AU fangame)

Hope you all have been well. I've had my ups and downs over these last few months, but I'm still making stuff as always. In December I released a trailer for Angel's Lullaby and released Undertale Event 2, an Underevent parody.

I'm burnt out still on Angel's which is why I'm focusing so hard on NightFell, which is a much smaller scope and simpler game to work on.

I'm proud to announce that the first 5 Minutes are finished for NightFell!*

*(Technically some things can be adjusted and sound design is put on the back burner but gameplay and cutscenes are implemented!)

The Ruins equivalent in this game, the Dead-Ends, has found its identity in its visuals and gameplay. I have a very clear vision for the first 10 minutes, and I'm on the right track to achieving that.

I'm hoping to upload the intro within the next week or so, as it's very close to being fully polished. The awesome @futuregamer25 made the music for it and I'm just so so so happy with it. I can't wait to show it off!

Aside from game development, I've updated the Game Jolt. I wanted to show off a more silly side of the game -it's a balancing act between horror and undertale brand comedy. The characters are vibrant and lively.

Nova is going to be a character we'll meet properly in the second area (I plan on releasing a demo and then the full game, so it'll be a long time before we meet her.) I love her to bits, so I can't wait to show her off. I hope someday you can love her too!

I should talk briefly about the group dynamics. As an Underfell game, the story (loosely) retreads the Undertale storyline. A fallen human must traverse a mountain full of trapped monsters to escape. However, because Undertale already exists and this is a fanwork, the "Ruins" tutorial area is much larger and has a more ambitious storyline. It combines the "Ruins" with a taste of "Snowdin" to it. Rider and Pumpkin are this game's Sans and Papyrus -er, while still having those guys but we won't meet them just yet.

Pumpkin and Rider give a fresh taste of what the rest of Mt. Crown is like in comparison to the secluded Dead-Ends. They're a much-needed goofball duo in comparison to Toriel's moody, haunting tutorial area.

It'll be tough, but I want nothing more to make this game a full reality. I have a very clear vision of what this game is and it's story. While it still needs fleshing out, I have an outline of the plot and emotional beats. Gosh, I'm proud of this story. It's not enough that the first 5 minutes are done. I need all of it! Now! Every day whenever I'm at work I'm just, want so desperately to be home working on this as of late. I need NightFell. You must understand this.

I need Pumpkin.

As it stands, I'm the sole coder of the game. Kinda. I'm using @futuregamer25 's UTDR engine, he helps out with advice and fixing up the engine itself as it's still being developed. But I'm doing my best to program this myself. (Major shout out to ya man, you've been a major help.)

But I'd very much love it if any coders wanted to offer some additional help.

I'd be thankful to have an extra pair of hands in Gamemaker.

I'd also appreciate Play Testers. I'd love to get some fresh perspectives on the game's development from outsiders who aren't familiar with NightFell, as well as checking to see if I've broken anything.
