Undertale: Hard Mode ~ Wonderful Idea [Genocide Ending]

Wonderful Idea update! Some changes + game previews + new track release!
It's a bit of a long post, so there's a summary at the bottom (although I recommend you a least try to read all of it).

Hey folks, I need to state three things about the future of this project. After around 2 years of consideration, and receiving some feedback, I decided that some changes must be made if we want this project to be treated seriously. Don't worry though, it's not much will change. It's a bit of a long post, so there's a summary at the bottom (although I recommend you a least try to read all of it).

There are also some game previews for all of you to see how we're doing!

Let's start with the lesser part:

No more angry Sans

In Wonderful Idea's artwork, Sans was almost always portrayed as "angry" since the very conception of this project. The thing is, I was never a huge fan of that and now I downright dislike it. I always found it a bit distressing seeing all the comments under the OST video mentioning how "furious" Sans is.

Well, that has now been fixed! Sans now looks and acts like Sans would. Of course, we're still dealing with amplified personalities here, but that will still not make Sans "angry". That's was always very out of character and I apologize for keeping it as long as I did. During the dialogue in-between attacks Sans will have his white pupils out, but no spinning bones. However, during the attacks, he will enable his spinning Genocide eye, and equally as spinning bones!

I think that's the right decision and I sincerely hope nobody is upset with that change. I think it's quite obviously unfitting. The new expressions are already featured in the game previews below!

But now for the elephant in the room...

The Gaster fight changes

I mentioned this before several times, but I, much like a few others, don't like the inclusion of Gaster in the Genocide ending. This was an old, outdated idea that was also made near the beginning of the project (just like angry sans, go figure). The barrier-void idea is really just me trying to patch the plot hole I made myself in the past. Plus including a Geno-Gaster fight in itself seems way too fanon, which is not something I want.

So does that mean we're fully scrapping Gaster from the game and the story?

Nope, not at all! That would be quite unreasonable in my opinion. His fight will still appear in the "Genocide Ending" game, but will no longer be *canon* to the story. What we'll do is finish and release the Sans and Asgore fight, and then later update it with an "Experimental Edition" (haha get it, "experimental", cause its Gaster, get it? alright) which will include the remaining Gaster fight. (That actually means that you're getting the game a little earlier!) How will his inclusion be explained there? Probably just make it so a specific FUN value will result in him appearing.

So will Gaster not be canon at all in WI?

That's also not the case. As I said in the past, I always wanted to have a bonus, optional Pacifist Gaster fight as the post-finale of that route. I feel like a Pacifist fight is much more fitting, and I already have tons of interesting ideas. No more barrier shenanigans though - we will simply meet with Gaster in his Waterfall room. Of course, that's (currently) planned only for the comic and a future video, but who knows, maybe we can make something more with it. (No promises though)

What about the music I made for the Gaster section though?

Well, that will still be used in the "Experimental Edition", but it's no longer canon to the project as a whole, I think? I think the themes *might* count as semi-canon to the project, much like STMPWYFS. Regardless, I think it's a small price to pay for better quality lore.

But anyway, the next thing is actually good and exciting!

The music changes

I also mentioned this before on our Discord, but I really want to remake the Phase 2 battle theme for WI. I also planned to remake Phase 3 "Gaster Blaster", but not sure if I still want to do that, now that it's no longer going to be canon. I want to update Phase 2, since it's really just an extended Megalovania, with some bonus leitmotifs. It also lacks more Asgore appreciation, which is simply OUTRAGEOUS, given that Asgore is my favorite character. So in conclusion, the new theme will be more of a unique theme (although it will still retain some Hadephobia motifs).

"WAIT NOOO BUT I LIKE THE CURRENT THEMES DON'T CHANGE THEM OMGGG".

Calm down now, my dear imaginary fan! No need to worry! You will still be able to enable the theme you prefer right as you start up the game, and also at any time via options!

Nothing else will change and it will be as simple as pressing one button. I dunno if I'll update any other themes, I think they're currently good enough as they are, and I'd like to focus on new WI themes instead.

Speaking of which!

New track released

At the same time as this post is released, I've also released a new WI track on Soundcloud. It's an intro to a much, much bigger track that is coming next week. It's gonna be over 7 minutes long! I hope you'll like its intro for now:

Summary

Hmm, that's quite a long post, isn't it? I can understand why some might not want to read that, so here's a short summary:

- Sans is no longer portrayed as angry cause that's lame and out of character for him. The new expression is featured below.

- The Gaster Geno fight is no longer canon, but we'll still include it as an optional feature in the game, so technically nothing will change. Gaster will instead have an optional Pacifist encounter featured in the future comic (not the game we're working on atm).

- The game will include a remake of Hadephobia which will be more original and include more Asgore sections, but you'll still be able to switch back to the original Hadephobia if that's what you prefer.

- New WI theme released on Soundcloud! It's an intro to a much bigger track coming next week!

Conclusion

So, in conclusion, literally nothing major will change, since you'll be able to customize your experience however you'd like! (unless you're a fan of angry sans, for some reason lol)

Game previews

And to end on a high note, below you can see some previews of the game! So far Avranik has finished Phase 1, the menu, game over, and Phase 2 has 10 attacks.

In the previews, you can see that Flowey can heal us during the fight. You'll be able to use that ability 3 times in total, and each time it heals 50 hp (20 hp instantly and 30 hp during the attack). Petals spawn time always depends on the attack's length.

You can also see Sans' changed expression, I think it looks much more fitting now.

Also Sans uses orange bones here, but it's likely that we'll end up changing that.

Thank you so much for reading!

Been working lately on lots of 'behind-the-scenes' boring stuff that no one really cares about, so here’s a guy playing the sax for some reason.

Another house i made long time ago.

Updated the chest in the maze, adding sound, particles and better animation. But what's in the chest?

One of the most critical update for Sunblaze demo. Now you are able to pet a cat! Finally!
