Hey everyone! It’s time to bring you all another little post-release update about what’s going on with The Grimsworth Reports. First off, you can get the game for just $5.99 over on Steam all week long right now! If you haven’t added the game to your library yet this is a fantastic time to do it, and you can see what other people are saying by visiting the Steam page and reading the reviews.
I also want to bring you all up to speed on a couple other things. First off, I’m working on a new project which is demanding the vast majority of my weekly development time (which is, of course, still part-time - very part-time!). As you can see from the above screenshot, I’m using Unreal 4 to finally enter the great big world of 3D. Cheonsa: Princess Warrior will be a first-person shooter that has a more Kirby/Mario-esque art style and feel to it. It’s something I’m really enjoying working on, but it also takes away time from trying to do anything with the other games I’ve released thus far.
That being said, I do plan on adding achievements to Woodfall over on Steam. It’s on the big ol’ “to-do” list, but right now Cheonsa has to take focus as both Tim and I are hoping it might be a game that could finally put Jenito “on the map” and allow us to make some sort of living doing this.
And in closing, allow me to be frank with you all about the issue of “making a living” doing this. I’ve made games for years now, so I’m very used to not really making an income. It’s something I’ve grown to accept over the years. But if you ever wonder, “why isn’t he doing more? Why doesn’t he make extra content for The Grimsworth Reports? Why isn’t it just free?” Please bear in mind that the answer usually has to do with sales. I know a lot of people seem to assume that any indie title released makes at least 5-10k or something along those lines, enough to really justify the time spent on the game. That is wildly far from the truth. In fact, from personal experience I know well what it feels like to make more like $100-$200 after a 6-8 month project is finished. I mean, seriously - that’s about what we make on the release of a game right now. I don’t say this to complain, just to give a rational explanation for why I usually move on from one project to the next fairly quickly, and why I’m so focused on Cheonsa right now. Tim and I both feel the game may represent a real opportunity to get some media attention and finally sell copies like a decent game. I hope you all will understand that I have to try and maximize that opportunity by focusing on the game.
Thank you all again for all your support! I hope you’re enjoy The Grimsworth Reports :)
-Daniel
