Oh yeah! I got both Sonic Superstars and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. I beat Superstars, and working on Wonder right now. Love both games :D

I think a fun power up would be a paintbrush (as an homage to Mario Paint.)
He could swing the brush to flick paint at enemies. (If the paint lands on the ground, it could slow enemies down.)
