A devlog post for the devlog board, how fitting!

We're working on significantly upgrading the way game news work. We want to turn it into a devlog, where you can post articles, images and videos in a feed. Users will be able to like and comment on them too.

Also, if a game is in development, we'll only show the devlog feed rather than any other feature.

Check out the GitHub branch to see development.

So CROS has taken over the main development for this now. All I know is that it's being prioritised, so look out for the initial release very soon.

No threadjacking please. (btw, that question should be asked through [email protected] anyway).

So i have started devlog some time ago but i see it has like 0% chance to be seen by anyone on gamejolt if i dont bring massive audience from outside so it could become "hot". Any thought about that?

In response to %{ user }@xesenix

I agree with you, definition of hot is very unclear to anyone here
So the best way (currently) to get attention is by joining channels by adding tags for certain channel

I don't know what would happen if everybody uses tags in their games though

That would help a lot. I've already spoken with CROS to have, aside from the HOT DEVLOGS also a section where they are sorted by newest first. He's only not fully convinced this would be an improvement, though.

Maybe it wont but at least the chance for finding old devlog that has just got some new shiny update and didnt had earlier no view/subscriptions will be higher than 0. Maybe show there only new text entries with certain amount of text like at least 100-200 characters or something like that so it wont be spammed with lesser updates?

Actually the lesser updates were on the reasons this was brought up.
I can test this out as I do have a new project running right now, and I will try to see how quickly the number of followers goes up over time, and try to compare it with my two previous sort-like projects.

odd question... ...can computer games technology (and other games related university courses) students use dev logs to create logs for games / projects / other game development related work to show our development over the years, then upload anything that turns out any good later on?

@kasafeara , sorry, really late, but sure! I don't see why not.

Hi. I don't know if I'm writing this to the proper board, but I want to ask something about my devlog. I'm currently using devlog system for my game, and the problem is, when I post my devlog page to the GameJolt site, it shifts to the back pages after a while and noone sees my devlogs after that moment. Is there any solution to this, maybe shifting back to the front page after posting a new devlog? What do you guys do?

In response to %{ user }@Sphynxinator

It would have been better to create a new thread about this on the GJ-Help, as this is an outdated announcement thread. Basically shifting back will happen because you are not alone here. You may be longer on the first page based on how popular your devlog/game is. The trick is maybe to seek more ways to keep the attention to your game. This thread contains a few more tips about that.

Hi, currently 'new' devlogs don't really have a chance of shining as they get buried deep under the 'hot' and 'featured' ones. Could you guys design it so people check out new games more?

Yeah, will be working on more discoverability for devlogs really soon!

I hope the update would allow us to find and read all devlogs :)

Honestly I am not sure you would want that...

He’s not the first to request this, though :-/

So how do i download games that has a Devlog only?

In response to %{ user }@Ilyasz

You can't! That's why they are DevLog-only.
You have to wait until a build has been released and the game moves out of its DevLog-Only status. That was the entire point of that status.
