Game Jolt is hosting an official jam using the new and shiny jam system! This time, it's all about glitches. Glitches? Aren't they bad? Well, yeah. But can you turn it around and make a game with the use of them? Maybe using some glitchy art, sound or mechanics? The choice is yours!

You can visit the jam's page here.

The jam will go on from June 9th to June 30th, and there will be a week of community voting.

Talk about the jam here! I can put up team requests on this first post if you would like to advertise it for this jam. Also feel free to post your WIP screenshots and finalised games!

Good luck!

So, how long does this "Tabulating" take? Is this a manual process?

Hmm, I didn't lose, that's quite disappointing...

Also, congrats to the winner for having sooooo many friends... must be a great feeling!

I am not a big friend of voting done by users. Many games get a low ranking only because the developer does not have a big audience or enough friends. It feels like "I suck I don't have enough friends!". But when judges vote your game and give you a low rating, it feels like: "Oh no, I cannot make games I suck I want to make a suicide!".

That's much better feeling than the first one.

Hell yeah!

But at a certain point in life, you realize that you can make bad games without having to kill yourself, then all is cool. Much like a state of nirvana, just let the bad games roll, it feels great ...!

The results have been announced!

Thanks to everyone who took part. This thread will be open for discussion for a short while before it gets locked.

Well, cannot say the best one won (the winner was a good game, but not the best), because - like I mentioned before - many good games left without votes or only with a few votes.

Well to be honest, I felt the jam was a bit lifeless.

The last GameJolt jam I participated in was the "Chaos" one, and even though my rank in that (honorable mention) was worse than this time around (3rd) - that was much more satisfying, there being a few primary reasons for that:

  1. I don't nearly see half the enthusiasm I saw last time around. I can't blame people for this since I didn't participate as actively in the voting process myself due to work load and stuff, buuuut...

  2. Voting where anyone can vote. I'm only fine with voting when it's like Ludum Dare - only those who've submitted can vote, and there are enough votes to counter those who don't follow the spirit of the jam. It's rather sad to see some really good games below due to lack of votes. I feel bad knowing some better game got less than me because of less advertising(?).
But then again, everyone knew this would be public voting when they entered the jam - so there's no point complaining about that either.
    Aaaand finally:

  3. (What I feel to be) Lack of enthusiasm from the organizers as well. I mean, the results are out - and probably no one knows about them apart from those who've been following the jam. No mentions/features anywhere else. And why did you guys suddenly turn so formal and stuff? D:

Just throwing out how I felt.

But of course it's hard work organizing something of this scale - so kudos to the organizers and all participants as well for all the effort they put in! Let's not forget why we do these jams in the first place - to have fun! :)

I feel similar very to Diptoman. I was especially disappointed about the rating phase.

  1. It took me some time to find out that there are actually two ways to vote for the game, which is very confusing.

  2. I played and rated all games that were playable on my Mac (I guess around 30), but received only 4 votes. In my oppinion every participant should be forced to at least vote for 10 or 20 games.

  3. Comments and voting is splitted? Why not put a simple comment box right below the voting?

  4. TURN OFF the voting on Gamejolt and present a link to the gamejam voting instead. Or do it the other way round: Replace the voting on Gamejolt with the gamejam system.

We appreciate the feedback. With the experience of using the new jam system with community voting, and having the theme announced before the start date, hopefully we can make the next jam better :)
