It sounds like this is the start of some kind of post where I admit that I think I am an extremely self-righteous person. but no, this is a complaint on my side, that's why I'm here. (Obviously XD)

I kind of hate that I automatically like the things I post myself. Like, why can't that be a setting or something like that? I don't want to like my own things! It has literally become a habit of mine to DISLIKE the post when I have posted it. The fact that that is a habit in the first place should say something about how annoying I think this is, I have no clue why Gamejolt does it, and I have no clue why you would ever do it in the first place, but I really find it annoying and I would rather have an option to like my own things automatically rather than having it always set to me always liking my own things.

Basically, I don't want to have to keep disliking my own post, remove this "feature" please. (If you could even call it that.)

Well, this is not gonna happen, as it's actually done to prevent the behavior you don't want to see... Some people upvote their own stuff as an act of narcissism, but as it does mess up the search results (as stuff is judged by these ratings by the search systems we use) this will mess up things in an unfair way. However, blocking this out would be very easy to bypass, and that would be impossible for moderators to keep up with, and we have better things to do, to be honest.

So by auto-liking this kind of abuse is no longer possible, everybody likes their own stuff, no unfair manipulation of the charts.

That also brings us to the advice NOT to unlike or dislike your own stuff, as you manipulate the search filters with that at your own peril, as you basically put yourself down one vote, effectively. By the way, Game Jolt is not the only site which does this, and some sites where this doesn't happen, has seen the abuse we wanted to prevent this way (YouTube is the most notable example of the latter).

So, just leave the feature alone, accept it's there, as removing it will do more harm than good, and disliking your own posts, will harm your own position, but that's your call. :P

I see your point, thanks for the insight!

I will still not stop disliking my own stuff, I seriously can't have peace in my soul knowing I liked my own post. (It's just a weird thing I have.)

Yeah, probably best to leave the feature alone, I can see that now. Some selfish people would like their own stuff and then it would bring them up, but keep the honest people down, which would, of course, be really stupid in its own right.

Thanks for the reply! :)

EDIT:
I forgot one thing here.

Why not implement a feature where the user cannot like his/her own post? It would be way more convenient for everyone to be completely honest with you. :P

I think you should ask CROS why it was so hard to prevent liking/disliking your own stuff without any loopholes, as I merely said what CROS said before when this question has been asked, but I think as since the loopholes in our security need to be discussed for that (which can be abused by more than just vote manipulators), I think that one has to remain a secret. I didn't code the site... I'm just a host, hahaha ;)

I mean, I'm here in the forums, so I guess I'll just wait. :P

Also, yeah, I get that mods don't know everything about the site that's obvious, thanks for taking the time to write to me though! :)
