Hey,

I just finished a final version of my free and open-source game and I'm thinking about publishing it largely than only my friends (here is a good place by the way :P)

But I've meet some pricing problem, and it seems I have to pay ^^

If my game is not signed by an Extended Validation (certification), Windows Defender SmartScreen will prevent people to run the installer executable. Some people with run it anyway clicking on "more info", but some others, because they don't know the option, or because they are a little scared or something else, won't pursue.

So, I'm wondering how you do guys to publish your game, communicate on it and so on without meeting the users' no trust problem.

Did you actually bought a 100$/year EV ? I don't really want to do that (open-source, free, not so willing to make money with it, no willing to pay so much for people to discover my game)

It's totally up to you on how you want to handle this. Honestly, most people don't code sign their games unless they're making enough money. Most people seem to know to click the More info and then Run anyway options on Windows. Once you hit enough sales, you can always buy a code signing certificate and sign the installer if you want to, though.
